San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, an islet off of the northern coast of the Basque Country, is a dramatic hilltop chapel that was transformed into Dragonstone, the birthplace of Daenerys Targaryen. This magical place is only a short drive away from the region’s largest city, Bilbao.

Real Alcazar de Sevilla

The Water Gardens of Dorne looked like something straight out of the Arabian Peninsula when it appeared in Season 5 of the series, but this scene was actually shot in the Real Alcazar in the southern Spanish city of Seville. This Moorish palace dates back to the 10th century and can still be visited in all of its splendor.

Las Bardenas Reales

Northeastern Spain’s desert-like region of Las Bardenas Reales, located in the province of Navarre, in a remote area, feature dramatic natural sandstone arches and formations. Northern Island is one of the most used Game of Thrones filming locations. It is a setting of Winterfell, the Iron Islands, Kings Road and Westeros.

The Castle Ward, which farmyard is the location of Winterfell, offers a great GOT adventure. You can be a real Stark for one day; rock a fur cloak, practice your archery skills and meet the real Direwolf dogs.

The Kingsroad aka The Dark Hedges is a very popular avenue of beech trees. Thanks to the series its popularity grew and there isn’t a day when there aren’t tourist trying to snap the best Instagram picture.

Croatia

The ancient city of Dubrovnik was the main filming location for King’s Landing, the capital of Seven Kingdoms. Dubrovnik West Harbor, Dubrovnik West Pier, Bokar Fortress and Fort Lovrijenac, Pile Gate Entrance to Old Town, The Jesuit Staircase are the most recognizable places where the story of the Lannister family was shown. Oh, and we can’t leave out the beautiful gardens!

Malta

The island of Malta, located in the Mediterranean Sea was the host to King’s Landing, as well, but only in season 1. The city of Mdina and its walls and forts served as the Red Keep. At the Azure Window in Gozo, which is now destroyed, was held the wedding of Khal Drogo and Daenerys Targaryen.

Iceland

The beautiful glacier landscapes were perfect for capturing the scenes for the North of the Wall. It was mostly filmed at the Thingvellir National Park. Another popular location is the the Grjótagjá hot spring cave where John Snow and Egret made love.
