]]>Budapest’s most famous Christmas market features a unique blend of local tradition and festive charm. With dozens of stalls featuring handmade crafts, cuisine, and a children’s theater, there’s something for visitors of all ages to enjoy. Those looking to learn more about the market and surrounding area can also sign up for guided tours—with stops for mulled wine and cake, of course.
Every December, a dusting of snow and a few decorations transform the heart of Tallinn’s medieval Old Town into a winter wonderland. Estonians take Christmas very seriously and are often credited as one of the first groups of people to bring the tradition of displaying trees for the holiday to Europe. In addition to several Christmas trees, the Tallinn market also features crafts, local cuisine, and even a merry-go-round.
Warsaw is home to several holiday markets, with the annual Old Town market being the largest and most famous. The city’s historic center is a sight to see decorated with lights and an 80-foot Christmas tree, which add an air of celebration to the otherwise quaint and cozy area. Stay warm with a hot cup of spiced wine as you shop for Polish crafts, or grab your skates and hit the rink outside the Palace of Culture.

This architectural mammoth is truly a sight to behold. With its soaring gold-encrusted domes and beautifully wrought facade, it’s one of the loveliest things you’ll see on your trip. It’s now a Russian-Orthodox church, so you can attend a service there if you wish. In the past, it functioned as a movie theatre and a naval museum as well.
This church is truly a relic of history, with construction beginning in the 13th century. The structure wasn’t completed until the 19th century, and frescoes from medieval times along with old gothic architecture are still on display. You don’t want to miss this church, as it’s also a world heritage site to boot.

]]>Most lists will put Bulgaria as the cheapest country in Europe. Although it is inexpensive, it is not at all underdeveloped or unsafe. Transportation is reliable and there are plenty of budget flights to Sofia, the capital. Vitosha Mountain and the 7 Rila Lakes are both beautiful day trips from Sofia. Hostels are easily found for less than 10$ a night, and a good sit down meal can be even less.
If you are looking for a much bigger country with lots of different cities and things to do then Ukraine might be the place. Kyiv, Odesa, Lviv, and Kharkiv are all huge cities with non-stop activities and cheap attractions. Although the roads and public transportation are not as reliable as other countries, the cost of living even in the big cities is incredibly low.
Known as one of the cheapest countries in Europe, Poland is a great place to start (or end) a trip due to its central location and close proximity to Western Europe. With lots of big cities, history, and some good nature as well, this country is well backpacked. While everything is affordable, the low cost of beer and other drinks makes the cities a big hit for travelers wanting to party.
