Dubai, UAE, has a reputation of being a travel destination for the rich and wealthy. However, this doesn’t mean that you can’t explore this unique and exciting city on a budget. Here are some ways to do it.

Avoid Visiting During Peak Season

The best time to visit Dubai is during winter, as the temperatures significantly drop compared to the scorching heat of the summer. However, this is also when budget traveling becomes challenging due to high demand. Instead, visit during the off-season, when the temperatures are higher but prices of flight tickets and accommodation get slashed. Additionally, many of the shopping malls and restaurants offer discounts during this time.

Don’t Buy at Shopping Malls

You should definitely visit some of the famous shopping malls in Dubai as they are an attraction for themselves. However, don’t spend your money there as you will be expected to pay a premium. Instead, do your shopping at souks in the old part of the city. Here you’ll find great goods and souvenirs at affordable prices, especially if you bargain a bit.

Use Metro as Much as You Can

Dubai is far from walkable and you will need to use transportation to get from one place to another in most cases. Make sure to use the metro for this as much as you can. It is the cheapest, most convenient, and most reliable form of transportation. Consider getting a Nol Card, which can give you an even better deal on metro fares while providing discounts on other services.

Eat Local Food

Dubai is a city with some of the best restaurants in the world, but resist the urge to visit them if you want to save money. The same goes for popular fast-food chains like McDonald’s. Instead, opt to eat local food that is just as tasty and costs a fraction of the price. You’ll find great eateries that offer cheap food in Satwa and Deira districts.

Let’s take a trip all the way to the United Arab Emirates, where the wonderful city of Dubai plainly sits. Over the years, Dubai has turned into one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, and for good reason. It’s become somewhat of the Las Vegas of the Middle East, and here are three things you can do there that’ll make your time a blast.

Burj Khalifa

You could do a lot worse than visiting the tallest building in the world. That title has been given to a handful of different buildings over the years, but the Burj Khalifa proudly holds it today, standing tall at an astonishing 828 meters, or 2,716 feet.

Sand Dunes

There are many different tours you can take where you’ll get taken to the sand dunes to do all kinds of fun activities. You can ride on ATVs, go “sand boarding”, and last but not least, take on an adventurous jeep ride up and down the sand dune mountains.

Expo 2020

Although there are so many different things you can do in Dubai, your trip wouldn’t be complete without attending the Expo 2020. Essentially a showcase for every country in the world to show their pride, history, and all-around pizzazz, it’s truly a one-of-a-kind international experience.

Dubai, the most populous city in the United Arab Emirates, is known for its mix of international designers and contemporary malls, making it one of the most exciting cities to go shopping. But, if you want to really experience Dubai, you have to check out the traditional markets known as souks. You’ll find everything from hand-woven textiles and gold to spices and fruits and vegetables. These are the traditional souks you have to check out.

Gold Souk

Fittingly, the Gold Souk is one of Dubai’s most famous markets and it’s the largest gold bazaar in Arabia, as Dubai is known as the “City of Gold”. Here you’ll find everything from wedding gems to everyday pieces and you can even create bespoke pieces or pick up the latest designer’s works.

Spice Souk

Not far from the Gold Souk, you’ll find the Spike Souk, which has a variety of spices, dried herbs, rice, nuts, and fruits at prices that can’t be beaten. The colors and fragrances alone are enough reason to visit the souk.

Perfume Souk

Follow the road up from the Gold and Spice Souks to Deira’s Perfume Souk. You’ll find perfumes, traditional oud, essential oils, and incense sticks. Create your own personalized scent in ornate bottles for a one-of-a-kind perfume.

Textile Souk

Just a short boat ride across the Creek from the souls in Deira you’ll find the covered alleyways of the Textile Souk. The shops have a huge range of hand-woven and machine-made fabrics in silk, cotton, wool, and cashmere.

The first association many people may have with Dubai is excessive wealth and opulence. But you may be surprised to learn that three are many great free ways to experience this city. Here are 4 examples.

Coffee Museum Dubai

This ‘shrine’ to all things coffee is located in a villa in the Al Fahidi neighborhood and has an impressive collection of coffee-related artifacts, including a 300-year-old coffeepot. Entry is free, and the many roasting demonstrations give the whole museum a lovely aroma.

Ride an Abra

Okay, technically a ride in an abra isn’t free, but it costs 1 UAE dirham, which is as good as. Hop into one of the wooden boats on either side of the Dubai Creek and take in the view of the old and new Dubai.

Check Out the Art at AlSerkal Avenue

AlSerkal Avenue is full of warehouse spaces offering a range of entry-free galleries. You can wander around the pop-up shops and concept spaces, and of course, stop for a drink in one of the cute cafes.

See the Flamingos at Ras Al Khor

At the Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary, you can pick up a pair of binoculars and take a closer look at the hundreds of pink flamingos that live in the water near the junction of Ras Al Khor Road and the Dubai-Al Ain highway.

Dubai Mall

Located in Downtown Dubai, the Dubai Mall holds the title of the biggest shopping mall in the world by land area. It has more than 1,200 shops and sees 100 million visitors each year. Besides shopping, tourists come here to enjoy the mall’s impressive architecture, astonishing interior design, and numerous entertainment options like an aquarium, zoo, and amusement park.

The desert isn’t usually considered a place where you can enjoy winter sports, but the Mall of the Emirates changed that thanks to its Ski Dubai. This impressive winter park has five ski slopes and a 279 ft-tall mountain for winter sports enthusiasts to conquer. On top of that, the Mall of the Emirates has 630 stores ranging from luxury brands to outlets and electronic shops.

Ibn Battuta Mall
