Whether you’re a frequent flyer or someone who only hops on a plane on special occasions, flying can get expensive. Fortunately, by signing up for the right frequent flyer program, you can enjoy several benefits and perks that make flying all the more worthwhile. Here are some of the best rewards programs that are sure to give you a bang for your buck.

Delta Air Lines SkyMiles

Are you an infrequent flyer who happens to enjoy visiting far and distant lands when you do eventually board a plane? If so, then Delta SkyMiles may be your ideal rewards program. With SkyMiles, the points you earn never expire. You’ll also be able to earn miles with Delta’s partners, including other international airlines, hotels, and restaurants, making it an ideal program for international travelers.

American Airlines AAdvantage

The American Airlines AAdvantage program is ideal for frequent flyers who enjoy exploring many new destinations. With this program, you can earn miles when flying to 1,100 international destinations. There are also numerous hotels where you can earn and redeem points including popular chains such as the Hyatt and the Mariott. By signing up for an AAdvantage credit card, you’ll earn points for every dollar you spend.

Alaska Mileage Plan

Perfect for long-distance travelers, the Alaska Mileage Plan calculates points according to distance traveled, not money spent. This means that you can earn the maximum amount of points even when booking flights at discounted rates. Alaska Airlines also claims that its program enables you to earn 30% more miles than its competitors, enabling you to get benefits, upgrades, and other perks faster.

If you love to travel, you know how important earning points is. Depending on the airline, miles can be exchanged for cool perks like upgrading to more luxurious classes onboard, earning free nights at hotels, or just ensuring that you don’t have to pay so much out of pocket when booking a flight.

Points can be earned when shopping at certain stores, and even reaching daily fitness goals, but here is one hack that you probably haven’t heard of before.

Members of Delta’s SkyMiles club can earn themselves a bunch of points, simply if their luggage takes a little longer to arrive.

“We’re committed to providing you with reliable and on-time baggage service every time you fly,” Delta states on its website. “That’s why we’re backing your bags with a guarantee: if your checked bag doesn’t arrive at the carousel in 20 minutes or less after any domestic flight, you are eligible to receive 2,500 bonus miles.”

All you need to do to sign up for the 20-minute baggage policy is fill out a form online—and then cross your fingers that your bags take their sweet time!

Just remember, though, overweight luggage and special items don’t count; and Delta’s baggage tracking system will be monitoring.

If you do luck out, those 2,500 miles can be used on any of the airline’s routes within the U.S. or Puerto Rico.
