]]>Denmark has been rated the happiest country in the world, but Danish people aren’t particularly chipper. Interestingly, many say that people are so happy because their expectations are so low. Despite this, people are very friendly and speak very good English.
However, Danes also pride themselves on being very direct. If they tell you something that would be rude in another country such as America, keep in mind that they aren’t saying it maliciously.
Finally, Danes value their personal space and privacy. When you pass someone on the street, the polite thing to do is not to make eye contact. Similarly, on the train or bus, indicate that you need someone to move by shuffling around or starting to get up from your seat–they’ll get up without any conversation needing to happen. Even more importantly, keep an eye out for the person next to you or behind you indicating that they need you to get up to let them off at the next stop.
