However, if you’ve eaten your fill of Scottish goodies and fancy something different, Edinburgh is a fantastic destination for folk who love Asian food. Newington is an area of Edinburgh chock-a-block with amazing and authentic Southeast Asian and East Asian eateries. Here are a few of our favorites.

Sister Bao

Famous for their fluffy bao buns, Sister Bao is a cute little canteen perfect for a quick and tasty lunch or dinner. As well as the signature buns, don’t miss the dan dan noodles or the smashed cucumber salad!

Noodles & Dumplings

23 S Clerk St, Newington, Edinburgh EH8 9JD

This no-frills hole-in-the-wall is truly a hidden gem. Unassuming and cheap, Noodles and Dumplings serve up huge portions of hand-pulled noodles and other hearty and delicious dishes. The steady stream of locals is a great advert for the reliably excellent food.

Kampong Ah Lee

28 Clerk St, Newington, Edinburgh EH8 9HX

This small and cozy restaurant is known for its generous portions of traditional Malaysian food. With a small menu of classic dishes, Kampong Ah Lee is the perfect bolthole for anyone in the mood for Nasi Goreng, Roti Canai, or Char Kwey Teow!

Kim’s Mini Meals

5 Buccleuch St, Newington, Edinburgh EH8 9JN

This family-run Korean restaurant is perfect for a casual evening out. Every order comes with a selection of tasty Korean appetizers and the service is friendly and leisurely. Don’t miss the Beef Bulgogi!

]]> If you want to get authentic Taiwanese noodles, you probably wouldn’t think of going somewhere in Paris, France. Yet, Paris is exactly where you can get the most delicious handmade noodles! Located at 129 Bd du Montparnasse, My Noodles has some of the most incredible Chinese cuisine. 

Make your way there and you’ll have the opportunity to watch them make the noodles right in front of you! While you wait for your food, prepare to be mesmerized by the chef pounding and pulling the dough for your fresh noodles. Seriously, it’s so hard to look away! 

They have a wide variety of foods to choose from. Their menu contains stir-fried dishes, soups, and many meat dishes. You can’t go wrong with anything you order, but we definitely recommend their soups and dumplings! The servings are large and are sure to leave you feeling satisfied. Trust us, the food is so good, you’ll consider coming back a second time during your trip.

Although Paris isn’t exactly known for being cheap, the prices at My Noodles were very fair compared to other restaurants in the city. This makes it a great option for those looking to get the most for their money during a trip!

]]> Throughout New York City, you’ll be sure to find plenty of Chinese food. However, there’s one spot in Chinatown that you really just can’t miss out on. The place is called Wo Hop and to go, you really need to know a couple of things.

First of all, when you go, there will be an upstairs restaurant that you will be tempted to go to but don’t! Though the upstairs restaurant is fine, it’s definitely not as good as the basement restaurant. No one knows why, but it is really a fact. So, next door to the upstairs restaurant will be a basement entrance that has a small covering over the stairs.

You’ll know it’s for Wo Hop because there is generally a line most days of the week. And though you might be kept waiting for 20-40 minutes, once you get in, everything is very fast! But, you won’t feel rushed to get out of the restaurant which is really nice.

The menu offers all your standard Chinese food, plus some extra funky ones, and fun dishes like curried noodles. Everything is incredibly cheap and delicious, and once you get there and eat the food, you’ll see how important of an experience it really is.
