While there are plenty of great things to explore when visiting countries around the world, there are also pitfalls to avoid. Each particular country has its own thing you need to be careful about, and that’s definitely true when it comes to Cambodia. Pickpocketing is very prevalent there, but this specific style of pickpocketing is something you must look out for.

Motorbike Thieves

The first thing you’ll notice when you go on the road in Cambodia is that the driving is a mess. There are always countless cars on the road veering into one another, everything appears unorganized, and there are tons of motorbikes as well as TukTuks, which are like open taxis. Speaking of TukTuks, it’s quite common for motorbikers to prey on tourists riding TukTuks by driving close to it and stealing the tourist’s wallet or phone.

This is, unfortunately, quite common in Cambodia, and something that you must be aware of before traveling there. You might think it’s okay to have your phone out so you can take pictures all around you as you ride through the town, but these motorbiking pickpocketers are waiting for just that. Make sure that if you ride in a TukTuk, you keep your phone either in your backpack or safely out of sight.

Angkor Wat is one of Cambodia’s most popular attractions and the largest religious monument in the world. This ancient temple attracts thousands of tourists every day, but there’s still a lot most people don’t know about this UNESCO World Heritage site.

Facing West

Unlike other temples in the region, Angkor Wat is facing west, probably as a way of establishing the superiority of Vishnu, the Hindu deity it was dedicated to.

Three Tiers

It’s not a coincidence that this religious monument comes with the three towering tiers. Each one has spiritual meaning, and they’re dedicated to Vishnu, the moon, and Brahma – the creator god in Hinduism.

Building Process

Angkor Wat was a true architectural feat when it was built back in the 12th century, and the vegetable compound was used during its construction to bond bricks together.

Mysterious Carvings

The amazing carving adorning its walls is one of Angkor Wat’s signature traits. One of them is very reminiscent of a stegosaurus, but cynics believe it probably depicts a boar or a rhino.

Underground City

There’s still a lot of mystery surrounding Angkor Wat, and according to research published in The Guardian, there’s an entire network of ancient cities sitting underneath.

Kep is a city in Cambodia located in the southern part of the country. This region is famous for the islands off the mainland coast, the incredible seafood, and one special type of pepper called the Kampot pepper. This pepper can be very spicy or mild depending, but the flavor is very floral and a little citrusy. Just outside Kep is a special pepper farm called Sothy’s Pepper Farm, and if you are ever in the area, you need to go visit!

At Sothy’s Pepper Farm, you can take a tour of the farm and see how these peppers are grown and what the process is like. The farm not only has tours of the actual peppers, but there is a shop where you can buy some really delicious types of peppers that are made from the plants, and there’s even a restaurant on the premises too!

If you are a foodie, you should definitely do this experience because it’s so exciting to see where this unusual pepper grows and how they make it into some really wonderful products. But, even if you’re not a foodie, it’s so fascinating to see the fields and learn about the process.

Phnom Penh Memorial Stupa

Thailand has always been an Asia’s top tourism hot spot. The percentage of international tourists is enormous and is increasing from year to year. Tourists are mainly traveling to Thailand for the tropical beaches, the great night life and the good Thai food. This is all good and fun, but people are starting to look for alternatives and Cambodia might be the new top Asia’s destination. Being full of exotic destinations, tragic history and Buddhist kingdoms, Cambodia is still less developed and less wealthy than Thailand, but since when is that a bad point?

Cambodia is known for the beauty of its temples, Siem Reap’s fun nightlife, the beautiful islands and the good Khmer food.

Cambodia brings you an authentic experience with its both, modern and ancient sides. You can easily spend a wonderful 10 days trip in Cambodia, going through different cities and islands, exploring the Cambodian life and trying the different kinds of Curry’s, which they call ‘Khmer Curry’.

Talking about Cambodian islands, Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem Islands, should be high on your bucket list!
