Activate the Immune System If we can enable the healing mechanisms of the body to function properly, most illnesses will be stopped before they start. And, when we do get ill, which can happen to even the most dedicated practitioners, our body can respond quickly and minimize the suffering from an illness. A healthy immune system will produce red and white blood cells and the T lymph cells that recognize, attack, and eliminate the invading substances of disease. To increase the production of the healthy cells of the immune system, we can activate bone marrow and the lymphatic system. Gentle hitting of the bones activates the marrow. Taoist yoga, chi kung, and tai chi open and close the hips to rhythmically move the fluids around the body for processing and elimination. The Inner Smile meditation floods the body with awareness and awakens the healing power of each organ, of the bone marrow, and in the glands which drive a healthy immune response. Tapping the sacrum, spiraling the hips, and squatting open up the thoroughfare of energy and fluid channels that pass between the upper and lower parts of our bodies. The marrow tissue inside the bones, when healthy, creates a conducive environment for producing and transporting blood cells. Smiling and tapping the thymus gland is another important aspect of the lymphatic system. The thymus gland is perhaps the most important player in the immune system. The thymus transforms lymphocyte cells into helper cells to find and eliminate sick and diseased cells. The capital city of Thailand, Bangkok, is a sensory overload that features street food, haggling for goods, and a good time around every corner. What many people fail to realize about Bangkok, however, is its rich wealth of Buddhist temples which dot the modern city with beautiful, centuries-old pieces of architecture.

While you will undoubtedly find plenty to do during your trip to Bangkok, be sure to make time to stop at these three wats.

Wat Arun

A temple has stood at the location of Wat Arun for over 300 years, but the spectacular restoration of the temple which finished in 2017 has made this site more magical than ever. The massive 250-foot central tower towers above the Chao Phraya River over which it reigns.

Wat Benchamabophit

Wat Benchamabophit might be a mouthful to say, but it’s definitely worth a stop while in Bangkok. Known as “The Marble Temple,” you’ll find massive statues of marble dragons surrounding its ornate central temple.

Wat Pho

The largest Buddha images in all of Thailand are found at Wat Pho, including a massive 46 meter long structure of a reclining Buddha which is the highlight of a trip to Wat Pho. Its four marble towers and other various halls make this a place where you can get lost for hours.

One of the great things about Shanghai, particularly for first-time visitors, is the sheer size of the city. A short trip on the metro can take you to a completely new neighborhood, and into a different world. A great way to see these neighborhoods is to visit some of the many temples in the city. Blend in with the locals and smell the incense of their tributes. These impressive temples are must-see sites, each in a different area of Shanghai.

Longhua Temple & Pagoda (Longhua Si)

This is the oldest and biggest temple in the city and includes a pagoda, several prayer halls, and the Buddhist Texts Library, where the magnificent collection of 500 golden statues of arhats is found.

Jade Buddha Temple (Yufo Si)

Probably the most famous of the three, home to the renowned Sitting Jade Buddha and Reclining Jade Buddha. Inside this temple is also a great little teahouse where you can witness a traditional tea-making performance.

Temple of the Town Gods (Chenghuang Miao)

Located in the fantastic Yuyuan Mart, this temple is dedicated to the city gods of Shanghai. Combine the visit with a tour of the fantastical Yu Garden and the famous Huxinting Teahouse.

Located in the autonomous region of Tibet in eastern China is the spectacular city of Lhasa. It serves as the capital of Tibet and could also be considered the world capital of Tibetan Buddhism.

Those who are looking to visit a unique place and discover holy sites in Buddhism need look no further than Lhasa for an incredible and special experience.

The beauty of the city is enough to take your breath away, but when you consider the city’s location at 12,000 feet above sea level, you’ll need to do so even more!

The original home of the Dalai Lama before the figure’s flight to India was the Potala Palace, located in Lhasa. This 17th century palace complex is located on top of a rocky hill and some say that it looks more like a religious fortress.

Another must-see Buddhist site in Lhasa is the Jokhang Temple. The temple contains a shrine to the deity Shakyamuni, and is widely considered by Tibetan Buddhist to be the holiest place in their religion.

If you find yourself in Lhasa, don’t forget to visit Norbulingka as well. These beautiful gardens host a palace which served as the summer residence of the Dalai Lama until the 1950s flight of the figure to India.

Anyone interested in Tibetan Buddhism must put Lhasa at the top of their list. Go as soon as you can!
