Most people coming to Belgrade are there to explore its nightlife and cultural scene, but the city’s architecture is also pretty stunning. The Serbian capital is home to some breathtaking religious buildings, and here are three you shouldn’t miss while exploring this city.

Saint Sava Temple

Built in the name of the founder of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Saint Sava Temple is one of Belgrade’s most recognizable landmarks. It’s been around since 2004, and its Byzantine-inspired architecture and imposing dome are reminiscent of Hagia Sophia in Istanbul. This temple will also take your breath away with its size since it’s one of the world’s largest Eastern Orthodox churches.

St. Mark’s Church

Located in close proximity to the Parliament of Serbia, this Serbo-Byzantine church was completed in 1940 and it’s instantly recognizable thanks to its red brick walls and the imposing bell tower.

Ruzica Church

You’ll discover many tiny wonders while exploring the grounds of the Belgrade Fortress, including this picture-perfect church. It’s best known for its beautiful façade covered in ivy, but the real magic starts once you step inside and discover its chandeliers made of weapons.

Serbia is one of the less visited countries in Europe. This is a shame as its capital city is vastly interesting and its history is fascinating. Here are five museums to convince knowledge seekers to stop by Belgrade on their European travels.

Nikola Tesla Museum

The man responsible for many of the significant technological advancements of the 20th century was born in Serbia. The museum honors the huge contributions Tesla made to life as we know it and contains artifacts and videos to teach visitors about his unique life and work.

Museum of Science and Technology

Even if you typically skip the science museum, it is worth stopping by this intriguing spot in Serbia. The room of illusions is a whole lot of fun and there are tonnes of interactive exhibitions.

Ethnographic Museum

The ethnographic museum honors the lives of the Serbian people over the centuries.

Museum of Yugoslavia

The Museum of Yugoslavia is arguably the most impressive museum in Belgrade. It tells the story of Yugoslavia in the most honest and respectful way and features many vastly interesting exhibitions.

Historical Museum of Serbia

Serbia’s history is notoriously complex and the Historical Museum does its best to explain the country’s history in the most sincere way possible.
