Known as China’s most beautiful bookstore, it’s surprisingly located in an underground parking lot. The store was opened to serve as a public library and is constantly expanding to other cities in China.
This store was opened by a group of friends over a decade ago and prides itself on its community events and classes, and on its amazing view of the Aegean sea.
This incredible space is actually a theater-turned-bookstore. It still features frescoed ceilings and balconies that are now filled with bookshelves, reading booths, and of course, an in-house café.
Inspired by Gertrude Stein and Alice Toklas’ relationship, two friends decided to open this bookstore and café on Bondi beach. With walls filled with books, it is the perfect spot for working, chatting, or quietly reading.

Chances are you’ve probably stumbled upon this literary sanctuary while scrolling through Instagram since it has a pretty distinctive aesthetic. Damaged books have been utilized in the creation of several picture-perfect sculptures, including signature book tunnel, and a hole in the wall, reminiscent of an old bank vault.
This display is surprisingly fitting since the grand atrium of Crocker National Bank once used to take up this space. Those days are long gone since the mezzanine level of the old bank ended up being taken over by one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world.
There’s so much more to The Last Bookstore than pretty displays, and owners of this establishment came up with them to attract customers. At the end of the day, a book is always a nice souvenir, and if you buy one of the used copies from the upstairs section, they’ll only set you back by $1 each.
