As a result, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced Greece’s new “beach bill”, aimed at making beaches more orderly and ensuring that there is sufficient space for both locals and tourists alike.
According to the new law, sunbeds can only occupy up to 30% of the space on regular beaches and a maximum of 15% of the space in ecologically protected areas. In ecologically “sensitive” areas, which are regarded as “untouchable beaches”, sunbeds are banned in their entirety. Furthermore, regardless of which beach you’re on, sunbeds must be at least four meters away from the shoreline so that there is enough space for everyone to move.
