The Major League Baseball season is set to kick off this week, with fans finally returning to the stands (albeit with reduced capacities) after the 2020 season was played without spectators due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Mid-Atlantic region of the U.S. is a place with so much baseball passion, history, and culture, and contains a big concentration of great parks in a small space. You should definitely make plans to visit these three!

Camden Yards: Baltimore, Maryland

Opened in the 1990s, Camden Yards has become one of the most beloved places to watch a ball game since its inauguration. Located near Baltimore Harbor and featuring great sightlines and a scenic warehouse on Eutaw Street behind right field.

Yankee Stadium: Bronx, New York

The new Yankee Stadium opened in the Bronx in 2009 and has quickly become one of the Big Leagues’ best places to see a game. From the Bleacher Creatures to Monument Park, you owe it to yourself to see a game at the home of the world’s most storied baseball franchise.

Citizens Bank Park: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Few fan bases match the passion and loyalty that Phillies fans have, and there’s no better place to experience it than at Citizens Bank Park, their home since 2004. With a backdrop featuring the Philadelphia skyline, you’ll love taking in a game in this electric environment.

While Baltimore, Maryland is known for the Inner Harbor, the East Coast city has so much more to offer with food and drinks that can’t be found in other cities. When visiting Baltimore, these five foods should be on your list of ones to try.

Maryland Blue Crab

We couldn’t make a list without talking about crab. The Maryland blue crab, which turns red when it’s steamed, can be eaten steamed, in a soft shell, made into crab dib, or turned in crab cake.

Old Bay

You can’t have crab without smothering it in Old Bay. In addition to crab, Old Bay can be used to spice mac and cheese, potato salad, chicken, and popcorn.

Natty Boh

This beer, which is a staple at any college in Maryland, was first brewed in Baltimore in 1885. If you go to an Orioles game, you have to sip on a Natty Boh.

Snowball

Snowballs are shaved ice that’s flavored with syrup and sometimes topped with marshmallow. Popular flavors include Egg Custard, Skylight, and Tutti Frutti.

Berger Cookies

This soft vanilla shortbread cookie topped with thick chocolate ganache icing, originated in Baltimore in 1835 after the Berger family brought their German chocolate recipes to the city.

Baltimore, Maryland has one of America’s oldest seaports and the recently-renewed Inner Harbor is home to the city’s best attractions. There’s something for everyone at the Inner Harborβ€”everything from museums, and restaurants to concerts and waterfront activities. Here are some attractions you shouldn’t miss at the Inner Harbor.

National Aquarium

Baltimore’s National Aquarium has over 20,000 animals representing 700 species and it’s one of the city’s most visited attractions. The exhibits include a multi-story Atlantic coral reef, an open ocean shark tank, a tropical rainforest, a glass pavilion with Australian wildlife, and a mammal pavilion that has Atlantic bottlenose dolphins.

Maryland Science Center

Across the harbor from the Aquarium is the Maryland Science Center which has three floors of science with hand-on exhibits of the human body, solar system, Earth science, and more.

Harborplace and the Gallery

Harborplace and the Gallery are the names of the two-pavilion complex with retail and dining options. The best time to go is when the weather is nice, so you can enjoy the bands that play along the waterfront.

Power Plant Live!

This entertainment complex with bars, clubs, and restaurants hosts concerts and it’s where the nightlife happens. Escape rooms, indoor axe-throwing, and beer gardens are just some of the fun things Power Plant Live! offers.

Port Discovery

This children’s museum is designed for kids under 10 and the main attraction is the four-story jungle gym. Kids will enjoy getting creative while exploring the world around them.

A lot of people overlook Baltimore in preference of its close neighbor, Washington D.C. However, Baltimore is an amazing city on its own and definitely deserves some recognition! Baltimore has so much history and tons of culture throughout the city, not to mention arguably the best crab in the country. So, if you want a change of pace but still want to be a part of the city life, put Baltimore on your list!

What To Do

The Baltimore Harbor sometimes referred to as the Inner Harbor, is one of the biggest epicenters of the city. There you will find tons of activities that will fit people of all ages. You can do go to the amazing National Aquarium which everyone loves. You can also go to the Maryland Science Center if you’re more into astronomy as there are an observatory and planetarium. Beyond that, the harbor has stunning water views, ships, and tons of restaurants and shops to enjoy.

Baltimore has strong roots in the African American community, and it’s so important to recognize and respect that when you’re there. One way to incorporate that into an engaging activity is by going to The National Great Blacks in Wax Museum. This museum is first of its kind, being a historical museum of only black people who helped establish the country we live in today. It’s such a different kind of experience you really can’t miss out.

If art is more your style, you have plenty of options in Baltimore. Current Space is perfect for you if you want to see a really different kind of gallery. Current Space is an artist-run collective that has tons of studios you can visit, but they also use it as a performance space, so keep your eye out for events!

Another great place to check out is the Maryland Art Place. This space is completely dedicated to local Baltimore artists, which really keeps the spirit of the local artist community alive. It’s also another place that puts on a lot of events, free exhibits, and performance art, so you should definitely stop by.

If you’re looking for a fun night time activity, you should definitely go to the Horseshoe Casino Baltimore. It’s right in downtown Baltimore, and definitely not something you can find in every big city, so take advantage of it and maybe you’ll win big!

What to Eat

Baltimore is famous for a lot of types of food, one being crab cakes. Though you can find them all over the city, one of the best places to get them is in the Lexington Market at a place called Faidley Seafood. What makes their crab cakes so delicious is the amount of crab meat you can taste and very little filler, which makes all the difference in the world.

If you want some awesome soul food, Ida B’s Table is the place to go. This restaurant is named after the writer and civil rights activist Ida B. Wells, which is a big nod to the black community of Baltimore. At Ida B’s Table, you’ll find all sorts of southern classics like fried catfish, gumbo, classic sweet pies, and more.
