From exploring underwater wonders to immersing yourself in local culture, The Bahamas offers a wealth of reasons to make it your next travel destination. Here are three good reasons why you should consider visiting The Bahamas.

Stunning Beaches and Crystal-Clear Waters

The Bahamas is renowned for its breathtaking beaches, with powdery white sands and crystal-clear turquoise waters that stretch as far as the eye can see. Whether you’re lounging on the iconic Pink Sands Beach in Harbour Island, swimming with pigs at Pig Beach in Exuma, or snorkeling amidst vibrant coral reefs at Thunderball Grotto in the Exuma Cays, The Bahamas offers an abundance of opportunities to soak up the sun and enjoy water-based activities in some of the most beautiful settings imaginable. Dive into the sparkling waters of Dean’s Blue Hole, the world’s deepest underwater sinkhole, or simply relax on the secluded shores of one of the Out Islands, where pristine beaches and secluded coves await.

Vibrant Culture

The Bahamas boasts a rich cultural heritage influenced by African, European, and indigenous traditions, resulting in a vibrant and diverse cultural landscape that is celebrated through music, art, and cuisine. Explore the colorful streets of Nassau, the capital city, and discover historic landmarks such as the Queen’s Staircase, Fort Charlotte, and the vibrant straw market, where local artisans sell handcrafted souvenirs and traditional goods. Immerse yourself in the rhythmic beats of Junkanoo, The Bahamas’ vibrant street festival featuring colorful costumes, lively music, and energetic dance performances. Sample the delicious flavors of Bahamian cuisine, from conch fritters and cracked conch to traditional dishes like peas and rice, johnnycake, and guava duff, served with a side of warm hospitality and island charm.

Outdoor Adventures

The Bahamas offers endless opportunities for outdoor adventures and ecotourism, with its diverse ecosystems, protected marine parks, and pristine natural landscapes. Explore the underwater wonders of the Andros Barrier Reef, the third-largest barrier reef system in the world, on a scuba diving or snorkeling excursion, where you can encounter colorful coral gardens, tropical fish, and marine life such as sea turtles, dolphins, and sharks. Kayak through the mangrove forests of Grand Bahama Island, home to diverse bird species and fascinating wildlife, or embark on a bonefishing expedition in the shallow flats of Andros Island, known as the bonefishing capital of the world. Hike through lush rainforests, explore hidden caves and blue holes, or take a boat tour to visit secluded islands and uninhabited cays, where you can swim, sunbathe, and enjoy the pristine beauty of nature.

While many people see the Bahamas as a romantic getaway ideal for honeymoons, the Caribbean country is the perfect family-friendly getaway. Between the beaches, pristine waters, and more than 700 islands, there are endless things to do in the Bahamas, making it a vacation you and your kids can look forward to. Here are three family-friendly things to do in the Bahamas.

Aquaventure Water Park

Located on Paradise Island this 141-acre water park transports you into a fantasy world built like the lost city of Atlantis. There are water slides themed on Mayan pyramids and jungles, a lazy river, and swimming pools.

With almost 700 islands, 2,400 cays, white-washed shores, duty-free shops, and outdoor sports, the Bahamas attracts millions of visitors each year. Between the beaches, forests, historic towns, and reeds, the Bahamas has so much to be discovered. It’s no wonder that the Bahamas is a popular honeymoon destination and family vacation spot. Here’s your guide to your Bahamas vacation.

Best Time to Visit

While temperatures in the Bahamas are great year-round, the best time to visit the Bahamas is from mid-December to mid-April, which avoids hurricanes and the rainy season. Keep in mind that from mid-December to mid-April, prices are higher because it’s the country’s peak season.

How to Get Around

Jitneys (public buses) are the best way to get around in central Nassau. Jitneys run every day from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., with reduced hours on Sundays. Depending on the distance traveled and the island, they cost between $1.25 to $8 per person. To get around other islands, you’ll need to hail a taxi or rent a car. If you plan on traveling between the Bahamian islands, you’ll have to fly from Nassau’s airport with the inter-island air service, take a water taxi, or book a boat tour or cruise.

Where to Stay

Rosewood Baha Mar

The Rosewood property is within Baha Mar, a 1,000-acre development that is on Nassau’s Cable Beach. The development also has to other hotels and guests at all three of the properties have access to all of Baha Mar’s amenities including a casino, a golf course, and more than 40 restaurants and bars.

Sandals Emerald Bay

This all-inclusive adult-only secluded resort found on Great Exuma Island in the Bahamas has a golf course, a spa, a marina, three pools, and unlimited land and water sports.

Grand Isle Resort & Spa

Grand Isle Resort & Spa overlooks Emerald Bay from the island of Great Exuma in the Bahamas. This modern boutique situated along a mile-long stretch of sand is super romantic with its couples spa treatments and private oceanfront diners, making it perfect for honeymooners.

What to Do

Bahamas Beaches

We can’t mention the Bahamas without talking about the country’s clear blue water beaches. The beaches range from water sport-focused sands to quiet sanctuaries on private islands. Whether you’re into sunbathing, snorkeling, or horseback riding, you’ll find the beach perfect for you.

Bahamas Boat Tours

If you’re into water sports, you won’t regret going on a boat tour. You’ll get to go diving, snorkeling, spear fishing, and swimming with wild pigs. Many tours offer access to private islands, where you can sunbathe and enjoy a picnic lunch on the beach.

Bahamas Diving & Snorkelling

Take advantage of what lies beneath the surface of the Bahamas’ water like the reefs, underwater caves, and sinkholes. Get up close and personal with aquatic animals like sea turtles, stingrays, dolphins, sharks, and Nassau grouper.

What to Eat

Even though you’ll find everything you need at the upscale Bahamian hotels and resorts, these places rarely have Bahamian cuisine and they’re expensive. If you want to eat like a resident, you’ll have to go outside of the hotel district.

Johnnycakes

Similar to cornbread, johnnycakes are made of milk, butter, flour, and sugar and they’re served with stews and curries.

Conch Salad

This ceviche-style dish serves uncooled conch spiced with spicy pepper and citrus salt. It’s common to find it mixed with green peppers, cucumbers, celery, and tomatoes.

Guava Duff

This sweet treat is guava-filled pastry topped with a rum or brandy butter sauce.

Rock Lobsters

Also known as spiny lobsters, these crustaceans are a main export of the Caribbean and they can be enjoyed boiled, in salads, as patties, or in a Creole-style sauce.

Nothing says “I love you” like a tropical paradise island. Why not treat your loved one to the idyllic Saddleback Cay? Of course, you’ll need a spare $11.8 and you’ll have to beat the other paradise hunters to the checkout first.

Back in 2017, Fyre Festival made headlines when it went from the festival of the year to the biggest festival fail in history pretty much overnight. Although the festival itself was a total utter fail, the promotional video for the festival was perfection.

Billy McFarland invited the likes of Hailey Beiber and Bella Hadid to a 35-acre luxury island which he incorrectly claimed belonged to Pablo Escobar. Although the too-good-to-be-true luxury festival never happened, the island where it was meant to happen is now up for sale.

HG Christie’s listing for Saddleback Cay reads: “With over 90 feet of elevation, it has a commanding 360-degree view from one of the highest points in the Exumas. This guarantees some compelling views over one of the best seascapes in the world!

“Saddleback Cay has seven major and minor beaches, the nicest of which faces the prevailing Southerly Winds. The physical property includes a main house, and several ancillary cottages (guests and servants quarters).”
