]]> The country of Australia is home to some of the most unique wildlife on Earth. Visitors to this country often base part of their desire to travel to this Oceania hotspot in their desire to see these one-of-a-kind creatures, which usually belong to the marsupial family.

Here are four marsupials that you should seek out on your next trip to Australia.

Kangaroos

These marsupials arguably constitute the most famous image worldwide of Australia. These unique and beautiful animals can be found throughout the country’s territory, with red and grey kangaroos being the most commonly spotted species.

Koalas

These adorable little marsupials are often found in Southeast Australia, where they inhabit eucalyptus forests in large numbers. Despite their popularity, they are listed as a vulnerable species due to widespread destruction of their habitats.

Tasmanian Devils

On the island of Tasmania, a unique animal known as the Tasmanian Devil roams wild. These vicious little critters are the largest living carnivorous marsupials on Earth and are widely known for their tenacity.

Wombat

These cute marsupials, which look like a mix between a small dog and a boar, can be found in the same territory, roughly, as the koala. They amazingly can run up to 30 miles per hour despite their pudgy appearance!

The Maria Island wombats are extra woolly. They can use it on this island off the coast from Tasmania, although it was 30°C when we were there! This subspecies is only found here and on Flinders Island. The Tasmanians nowadays ask visitors to take a pledge to leave them alone as too many people touch, cuddle and hold them for a photo. They're wild animals, despite the fact that they won't run when you approach! Maria Island has a couple of great hikes along the coastal fossil cliffs, through forests and spectacular coloured sandstone cliffs. Pretty much guaranteed to find these guys, kangaroos, wallabies and much more. ]]> Australia is known for its grotesque and poisonous creepy-crawlies and terrifying snakes. It’s also home to some unique animals which you can only find in the wild if you visit Australia. Here are ten friendly (and not so friendly) Australian native animals that you will not find anywhere else.

Kangaroo

The kangaroos are Australia’s unofficial national animal, which makes sense, because you can only find them here.

Wombats

Wombats are most commonly spotted in the Epping Forest National Park.

Koala

Koalas are adorable herbivores native to Australia. They eat eucalypt leaves and pretty much nothing else.

Platypus

The platypus is a bizarre mishmash of a duck, beaver and otter. They are highly venomous but extremely curious to look at.

Thorny Dragon

These lizards are less cute and more creepy. They are the only speicies of devil lizard you will find in Australia.

Tasmanian Devil

Unlike the cartoon, the Tasmanian Devil is a dangerous animal with one heck of a bite.

Dingo

Dingos are a rare species of dog which are unfortunately on their way to extinction.

Inland Taipan

The Taipan is the most venomous snake in the entire world. You definitely don’t want to run into one of these on your summer vacation.

Tiger Quoll

Tiger Quolls are native to Australia and are the largest species of marsupial.

Young quoll being rehabilitated. Quoll belongs to the group of carnivorous marsupials. There are 6 species of quolls that differ in size, color of the fur and type of habitat. Two out of six live in the Papua New Guinea, while others inhabit Australia and Tasmania. Quoll inhabits forests, scrublands and grasslands at the altitude of up to 11.400 feet. Number of quolls dropped drastically in the previous century due to introduction of invasive species such as poisonous cane toads, foxes, cats and dogs which decrease amount of available food. Other than that, habitat loss and poisoning pose severe threats for the survival of remaining populations of quolls.
