]]>Close your eyes and picture an island overflowing with penguins. Sound like a dream? Well, if you visit Isla Martillo in Argentina between the months of October and April, you’ll be able to make this dream come true. These penguins are even calm and friendly to humans.
Japan is known for loving cats—after all, it is the home of Hello Kitty—and, indeed, it is a great place to go if you’re a cat lover. Aoshima is an island where the cats outnumber the people six to one, meaning you’re guaranteed to have a kitty encounter if you go.
Why go to Sea World when you can go whale watching in Sydney Australia where, from May to November, you can observe the migration of wild humpback whales as they leave Antarctica for Australia to have their babies. It’s an out-of-this-world experience, and plus you can be confident these whales are leaving out their lives in nature and peace as opposed to captivity.

]]>Opened in 1992, the Veracruz Aquarium has grown to become the most important aquarium in all of Mexico. From sea life native to the waters of the Gulf of Mexico just a few miles from the aquarium to native Mexican freshwater species, this aquarium does a great job showing off the best of the country.
Of particular interest is the aquarium’s recreation of the Los Txultas rainforest area, where you will find freshwater fish alongside terrestrial animals such as boa constrictors and macaws!
While the Veracruz Aquarium does focus on native fauna, don’t worry if you are looking for exhibitions that show off something a little more exotic. One of the coolest shark exhibitions you will find anywhere shows off tiger, reef, and nurse sharks that inhabit the world’s oceans.
Humboldt penguins and manatees are two more of the star attractions of one of Latin America’s best aquariums and a must-see spot on your next trip to Veracruz.
Run, don’t walk to this fantastic exhibition of the best that our world’s lakes, rivers, and seas have to offer!

]]>Completed in 2005, the Georgia Aquarium in downtown Atlanta is the third-largest aquarium in the world. Containing collections of both freshwater and saltwater species, the aquarium hosts fauna from all of the world’s seas and from North America’s freshwater areas. Whether you love river otters, sharks, dolphins, or rays, the Georgia Aquarium is a can’t-miss destination if you love animals.
While the Georgia Aquarium is a must-see destination for marine life, Zoo Atlanta is great if you are looking to admire terrestrial animals. Hosted in the Grant Park neighborhood, this zoo has undergone a revitalization in recent years and is now one of the most impressive of its class in the region. African and Asian animals are given special attention here, with the zoo hosting beloved creatures from these regions such as giant pandas and elephants.

]]>If you’re looking to see penguins in the wild and in person, here are three unexpected places where you can also travel to check them out.
Yep, that’s right — you can find penguins in Africa if you travel to Cape Town! This world-famous city is the home of penguin colonies on several of its beautiful beaches, which provide an almost unbelievable sight for tourists to see.
You might think more about wine and steak when you think about Argentina, but by traveling to the southernmost tip of this South American country, you will be able to come face-to-face with Magellanic penguins, a species native to the region.
It might seem hard to believe, but you can actually find penguins lounging on the beaches of Australia’s southern coast as well. Fairy penguins, a small and extremely cute species, are particularly numerous in the natural reserves and islands near the city of Melbourne.

]]>One of my favorite discoveries lately has been a selection of American aquariums that offer up different types of virtual visits! These are some of my favorites.
The New England Aquarium in Boston provides a page full of at-home visits and activities to enjoy and learn. You’ll find visits to animal habitats where you’ll be able to watch recorded feeding sessions where you can learn tons about the wide variety of marine life found in this excellent aquarium.
Do you like live webcams of animals? If so, the Georgia Aquarium’s extensive collection of webcams of some of its favorite animals in their aquarium habitats is a great choice for a home visit. My favorite is the sea otter cam, and you’ll also find others like a piranha and a beluga whale cam.
The Monterey Bay Aquarium dishes up all kinds of sea life content on its fantastic website. Here, you will find a selection of live cams of different animal habitats as well as narrated feeding sessions every single weekday

]]>If you are driving on US Route 95 just outside of the small town of Cottonwood, you will come face to face with a giant beagle. That’s right, a dog is the most interesting landmark in this town of just 900 people.
And lucky enough for you, this beagle is more than just a statue: it’s a fully-functioning bed and breakfast that you can stay in!
The Dog Bark Park Inn contains only one room and gives about as personal of an experience as a dog lover can get. You’ll be staying inside of “Sweet Willy,” a cute beagle that is the home to a queen bed and two twin futon beds, making it perfect for a stay with your partner or your family. The dog-themed decoration of the interior of the bed and breakfast is absolute heaven for canine lovers.
Located conveniently near Hells Canyon of the Snake River National Recreation Area and also halfway between two of the United States’ most famous national parks, Yellowstone and Glacier, nature lovers will find plenty to do nearby.
Be sure to call the property well in advance of the dates you’d like to stay, as demand is high and the B&B’s one room means that availability is limited! If you are lucky enough to stay here, it will certainly be an experience that you’ll never forget.

]]>Animal lovers will also be at home in the Azores, as it is home of arguably the best whale watching on the planet.
The main island of Sao Miguel is the whale watching starting point if you visit the Azores. From here, boats leave from two main places: the capital city of Ponta Delgada and the smaller village of Vila Franca.
Either is a fine option for whale watching, as these magnificent creatures can be found in plentiful numbers around the island in all places, especially from the months of April to October.
Half-day trips are the usual choice for those who are going whale watching in the Azores, with morning and afternoon trips having an equally good chance of seeing these magnificent animals.
Sperm whales are the main species which can be found around the Azores, as these giant beasts enjoy feeding on the plentiful amount of squid and other seafood which can be found in the waters around the Azores.
Rarely, migrating whales like blue whales, fin whales, and humpback whales can be spotted as they migrate to other places.
In short, any animal lover would be crazy not to go on a whale watching tour while visiting the Azores. Be sure to sign up for a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see one of the world’s most majestic creatures.
