Ruaha is the largest national park in Tanzania. However, the vast wilderness has very few safari lodges making it a more exclusive and secluded place to get away from it all. While here, you can enjoy the vast elephant population of about 10,000 and hot air balloon safaris. Furthermore, it’s a dramatic scenery with varied habitats; from gentle hills and baobab groves to the great Ruaha River and open savannahs.
Lewa leads in community-based wildlife conservation in Kenya, and it’s home to endangered rhino and Grevy zebras. You can enjoy guided horseback, camelback, and walking safaris through diverse habitats such as forests, grasslands, and woodlands. It’s home to over 440 birds of species recorded and over 70 species of different mammals.
Selous, located South of Tanzania, is an hour’s drive south of Dar es Salaam. It’s one of the largest protected areas in Africa, housing populations of large mammals, and its dramatic landscapes and varied habitats give it an exceptional diversity drawcard.

]]>African safaris are a great option for this start of travel, but you might not know where to start out when planning to go on one. As a starting point, these are three countries with excellent safari options that I recommend that you consider.
Often considered to be “the birthplace of safari travel,” Kenya is a classic pick for African exploration and one of the best options out there. The Masai Mara National Park, the home of lions, cheetahs, elephants, zebras, and hippos, among other animals, is the most popular region to explore.
There is no shortage of natural areas with wildlife to explore in Tanzania, as the western half of the country is full of game reserves and reserves like the Serengeti National Park. You will be amazed at the herds of animals like wildebeests and rhinos that can be seen here.
South Africa, Botswana’s neighbor to the south, might be more famous for safaris, but this smaller country might be an even better option. Giraffes and hyenas abound in places like the Kalahari Game Reserve, a natural, dry grassland with normally pleasant weather and great sightlines.

]]>Antarctica is the coldest, most ice-covered continent in the world and it happens to be really expensive to visit. Trips are planned at least a year in advance. The cruises begin in the southernmost city, Ushuaia in Argentina. The stops include the Falkland Islands, South Georgia, South Shetlands, and the Antarctic Peninsula. At each stop, you can look forward to heading out in a zodiac (inflatable boat) and watching wildlife, visiting research stations, going polar diving, and reaching land to snowshoe.
If you got a chance to witness the “Great American Eclipse” in 2017 you’ll know just what an amazing experience it is. For just a few minutes, the entire world goes cold and dark for those under the moon’s narrow and fast-moving shadow. During the eclipse, you’ll get a glimpse at the sun’s corona which is its wispy, white outer atmosphere. The next one is set for Chile and Argentina on December 14, 2020 and then in Antarctica on December 4, 2021.
Animal lovers have to take a safari trip at least once in their lifetime. Visit Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve if you’re after the “big five” (lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, and buffalo). Don’t miss the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. The risky river crossings take place in July and August and from January to March wildebeest calves are born in the southern Serengeti. In addition to safari tours, you can hot air balloon or trek the Rwanda or Uganda to see mountain gorilla.

]]>Victoria Falls National Park is in north-western Zimbabwe. Expect to see incredible water features and an array of animals in the rain forest. You should see elephants, buffalo, rhinos and hippos. Watch out for crocodiles basking in the river. You may want to see them from a safer distance at a nearby crocodile ranch.
Serengeti National Park in Tanzania is another incredible place to travel. It has a unique ecosystem and is known for its annual migration of over one million wildebeest. Expect to see zebra, Nile crocodiles, and honey badgers.
Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya is one of the most well-known safaris. Located in the savannah wilderness, you may be lucky enough to see lions, cheetahs, hippos, elephants, rhinos and zebras. This is probably the best destination if you dream of seeing the big 5.
Addo Elephant National Park is located near Port Elizabeth in South Africa. It is one of the largest parks in Africa. Packed with diverse animals, this is a great place to experience animals in their natural environment. Addo is home to one of the largest elephant populations and claims to be the only park in the world to experience “the big 7” which includes whales and sharks.
