]]>One of my favorite things to do in Bangkok was wandering the streets and trying a different street food stall each time. I know many people are fearful when it comes to street food and are worried about disease, but it’s quite the opposite – The raw ingredients are generally fresh every new day.
We didn’t experience any issues with our food, and we ate outside on a daily basis. I would, however, recommend avoiding ground meats and seafood – as those do happen to be less fresh in some places, which can be quite bad for you.
We stayed in several areas in Bangkok – China town, Near Khaosan and in Sukhumvit.
My favorite street for food was in China town, especially the different soups. The main street, Charoen Krung has many street food stalls, as does Itsara Nuphap street with houses a food market as well as many stalls, one of which is an excellent papaya salad stall, Som Tam. Also, boutique hotel Casa Nithra, which lies a 10-minute walk away from Khaosan, is on a street with many good food stalls as well. It’s called Chakrabongse road.
The prices of street-food are generally between 20-60 baht, so not only is the food delicious – It’s also very cheap.
If you want to visit somewhere lively with lots of restaurants, bars, and street food – the Khaosan area is exactly what you’re looking for. There is also the Rambuttri street which is slightly less crowded but still has many bars and restaurants. The area itself is quite touristic and you’ll hardly run across any locals there, but it’s a nice place for an evening hangout.
There was a small street bar with good African-American music, and the staff had a cool style we really liked, as well. The bar is Nhoom’s Bar, on Rambuttri street.
Bangkok has many high-quality bars with a great atmosphere that are situated on rooftops of buildings or hotels, which offer a beautiful view over the city.
We got the chance to visit such bars, “Octave Bar” and “Above Eleven.” Octave has a very luxurious style to it and is located on the roof of the Marriot hotel on floors 45-49. The entrance is through the hotel itself. I’d recommend booking a spot a few days ahead, as it’s almost always full. If you come between 17:00 and 19:00 you can enjoy a Happy hour, during which all cocktails and several other drinks are half priced.
Also, they serve a bar meal for couples up to 21:00, for 1500 baht. The meal is served in a box with drawers, each containing something such as two mini-burgers, chicken nuggets and more. It was really delicious! We enjoyed the food and drink experience very much, as well as the prestigious atmosphere and beautiful view.

]]>The best time during the year to go is in the Spring (February-April), and in the Fall (August-October). The temperatures aren’t too high and it doesn’t rain too often.
During springtime, in March and April, the rain goes away in all locations and the temperatures are perfect. In some places, like Sapa, it might still be a little chilly. If you’re planning to go on November or December, the best decision would be to start in the North and make your way down South, before it gets too cold.

After breakfast, we took a subway to the South Ferry Station in order to do a sight-seeing tour and to see the Statue of Liberty. Even though we are less into touristic attractions like this, it seems unreasonable to be in NYC and not see the Statue of Liberty, right? We ordered the tour from Groupon.
The tour was about an hour which was the right time in my opinion. It was a really nice experience, although it started to rain really heavily the moment we arrived in front of the Statue of Liberty, but we still had a good time.
We wanted to drink a coffee so we walked to a bakery that looked nice from the outside and it was really good. We ordered two cappuccinos. I ordered a chocolate banana muffin and Roman ordered a brownie. They were fresh and delicious.

]]>A really good American breakfast at a reasonable price at Johny’s Luncheonette, Considered as one of the best breakfasts in Manhattan. Roman ordered a typical American dish of pancakes with sausages and omelet. I ordered poached eggs with Spanish roasted pepper, Bulgarian cheese, and crunchy pita bread on the side.
We also received free coffee with it. My dish was so good. I really liked the crunchy pita and how the Spanish pepper was cooked; it was a light dish and a great way to start the morning. Roman was also very satisfied with his dish and it was pretty big, even for him. The bill was 16 USD so it’s a really good option for a tasty, fast breakfast.
After breakfast we continued to a really cool park: its height is 9m’ and it is 1.45-miles long on an old railroad. I really enjoyed the views from there and we took many pictures as well. It’s pretty shadowed, so it’s nice to walk there.

From the park, we continued to Chelsea market. You can go there from the park. This market is amazing! I recommend you to go there when you are hungry (unfortunately we weren’t) because there are so many restaurants that look so good.
There is also a part with cool stalls of souvenirs, jewelry, clothes, and more. There are special things that I didn’t see in other shops. In conclusion, this is a must-see market.
After lunch, we went to the meeting point of the tour that we had booked in advance. We took the tour of the company Free Tours by Foot. This company offers many tours that look very interesting. We decided to take this tour because we wanted to learn more about this area and also Harlem looks very cool so we wanted to tour there.
The tour was about 3 hours and the guide was funny, fascinating, and with a wide knowledge. He combined music with his explanations which were pretty awesome. The tour is free (based on tips).

]]>The choice turned out to be an excellent one: Our guide Andreas was charming and knowledgeable; his English was very clear and his stories were a joy to listen to. We finished the tour full and very satisfied. I think any foodie who likes to try new dishes, learning about the city and its cuisine all the while, will really enjoy this one as we did.
We were a small group of five, along with our lovely guide Andreas. We met in the morning hours at a central location and our first stop was a local café for some traditional coffee. This was already a good start, as I didn’t have the time to get coffee beforehand. To be honest, we didn’t have breakfast either since we wanted to save room for the tour – and a lucky thing we did, as the tour definitely offers an impressive amount of food.
The tour included many food stops, but a lot of walking as well – we got to see all of Athens’ central areas. Additionally, the guide had many riveting stories to tell us about the city. We got to learn about the Greek culture and of Athens in particular through the local cuisine.

]]>The nightlife in Hanoi is awesome and surprising. You can drink cheap beer and enjoy the cool atmosphere of the city.
Hanoi Free Tours is a company that offers free tours (based on tips). The guides there are Vietnamese students who work in this company in order to practice their English and to earn some money.
Our guide was an 18-year-old guy that speaks English really well. The tour lasted about 3 hours. We were the only ones on this tour (just me and Roman) so it was like a private tour and it was awesome.
Our guide told us about the history of Hanoi and Vietnam in general, he knew a lot of stuff. He shared with us stories about the way he lives. We asked him many questions and he was so nice and answered everything. He even took us to his favorite place to eat sandwiches and to a hidden gem to drink coffee with a view to the lake. He also gave us tips and recommendations.
I really recommend this type of tour. The company offers other tours too, like in the French quarter or a food tour.
A great option for a rainy day. I wrote more about it in the post “Water Park Inside a Mall in Hanoi, Vietnam”. Also, in the mall, there are other activities, like 3d movies and ice skating so those are also great options.
An amazing, exotic, and tasty experience. If you are looking for an adventurous meal this is something you have to try. The whole experience is unforgettable. We went there with an Austrian couple we met in Tam Coc and we had an amazing time.
