Bangkok is one of my favorite cities in the world. It combines luxury with a local experience. It’s a street-food superpower with a ton of attractions and things to do. It has nightlife, massages, crazy cafés, giant malls, rooftop bars on top of buildings and hotels, bustling streets and many, many restaurants, shops, markets and anything else imaginable.

Trying street food

One of my favorite things to do in Bangkok was wandering the streets and trying a different street food stall each time. I know many people are fearful when it comes to street food and are worried about disease, but it’s quite the opposite – The raw ingredients are generally fresh every new day.

We didn’t experience any issues with our food, and we ate outside on a daily basis. I would, however, recommend avoiding ground meats and seafood – as those do happen to be less fresh in some places, which can be quite bad for you.

We stayed in several areas in Bangkok – China town, Near Khaosan and in Sukhumvit.
My favorite street for food was in China town, especially the different soups. The main street, Charoen Krung has many street food stalls, as does Itsara Nuphap street with houses a food market as well as many stalls, one of which is an excellent papaya salad stall, Som Tam. Also, boutique hotel Casa Nithra, which lies a 10-minute walk away from Khaosan, is on a street with many good food stalls as well. It’s called Chakrabongse road.

The prices of street-food are generally between 20-60 baht, so not only is the food delicious – It’s also very cheap.

Walking around Khaosan and Rambuttri

If you want to visit somewhere lively with lots of restaurants, bars, and street food – the Khaosan area is exactly what you’re looking for. There is also the Rambuttri street which is slightly less crowded but still has many bars and restaurants. The area itself is quite touristic and you’ll hardly run across any locals there, but it’s a nice place for an evening hangout.

There was a small street bar with good African-American music, and the staff had a cool style we really liked, as well. The bar is Nhoom’s Bar, on Rambuttri street.

Going out to rooftop bars

Bangkok has many high-quality bars with a great atmosphere that are situated on rooftops of buildings or hotels, which offer a beautiful view over the city.

We got the chance to visit such bars, “Octave Bar” and “Above Eleven.” Octave has a very luxurious style to it and is located on the roof of the Marriot hotel on floors 45-49. The entrance is through the hotel itself. I’d recommend booking a spot a few days ahead, as it’s almost always full. If you come between 17:00 and 19:00 you can enjoy a Happy hour, during which all cocktails and several other drinks are half priced.

Also, they serve a bar meal for couples up to 21:00, for 1500 baht. The meal is served in a box with drawers, each containing something such as two mini-burgers, chicken nuggets and more. It was really delicious! We enjoyed the food and drink experience very much, as well as the prestigious atmosphere and beautiful view.

Want to travel to Vietnam but don’t know when is the best time? Debating whether you want to go North or South? Then you’ve made it to the right place. We are going to share every detail of Vietnam’s weather to help you pick the perfect date for your travels

When is the best to travel to Vietnam?

The best time during the year to go is in the Spring (February-April), and in the Fall (August-October). The temperatures aren’t too high and it doesn’t rain too often.

During springtime, in March and April, the rain goes away in all locations and the temperatures are perfect. In some places, like Sapa, it might still be a little chilly. If you’re planning to go on November or December, the best decision would be to start in the North and make your way down South, before it gets too cold.

Hanoi

temperatures during the summer in Hanoi (May-September) run on average to about 32 degrees Celsius, and rain is pretty common. Those tropical rains will catch you out of nowhere. The rain usually falls in the afternoon, and even though you could be completely drenched as well as your surroundings, the summer counts to have the highest hours of sunshine on average. The chilly winter brings some fog and clouds, yet not a lot of rain. The average temperature in the winter is 17 degrees Celsius. The best time to travel is in October and November, that’s when the average temperature is 21 degrees Celsius with less rain and a lot of sunshine. Assuming that you are going to Hanoi during summer when it rains, there is a lot of other things to do indoors. There are museums, malls, and you can even take advantage of the fact that you’re in Vietnam and take a cooking class.

Halong Bay

Halong Bay is usually really foggy, which makes your visibility limited, but it adds a mysterious vibe. If you want to go when it isn’t foggy, we suggest going anytime between March and May, when the sky is usually blue.

During the summer, from May-November, the days are warm and humid, and it usually rains in the afternoon. The winter gets cold, so if you want to go, then the perfect time is between Match-May, or in the fall when you’ll score that perfect weather.

Saigon

It’s usually warm all year round in Saigon when the nicer days are 28 degrees. The tropical weather hits from May-November.

Ko Phi Phi is a small, cool island that has no cars in Thailand. you can explore the entire island by foot, so it’s really fun.

It’s located east of Phuket and it’s easy to reach it by ferry. In Ko Phi Phi there are many restaurants, cool bars, and beach parties. There are amazing beaches, street food, diving, snorkeling, a 7 islands tour and more recommendation for a lodging: PP Insula – a simple, clean, and nicely located hotel with reasonable prices.

We stayed there for a few nights and were very pleased with it.In addition to all the great things I mentioned that you can do in Ko Phi Phi, there is also a really nice point view trip that you can do while exploring the island.

Phi-Phi Viewpoints trip

Many people go to the first point view. It’s about 20 minutes climbing many stairs. It’s open every day and costs 30 baht. You will see signs on the island that direct you to the beginning of the stairs.

Climbing up is pretty exhausting, but it’s so worth it.The view from the point view is breathtaking. You can also sit there and relax to grab a drink from the restaurant and enjoy the amazing view and breeze. If you want to challenge yourself a little bit more, you can continue the trail in order to reach the other point views and afterward you can continue on that trail to the other side of the island. It’s a trail in the forest and it’s really nice and shaded for walking. It’s about 2 hours walking (depends on your speed). From the first point view, there are 2 more viewpoints.

The trail itself is non-touristic and you won’t find many people there. After arriving to the other side of the island you pass through a small village. This village was built after the tsunami by the rescue forces for local residents of Koh Phi Phi and non-Thais.It’s really cool to see this village because now only locals live there, but all the signs are in English. Aside from the small villages, there are also great beaches and nice restaurants there. So you can spend a few hours there and have a great time.

In order to go back to your hotel, you can walk back the same as before or take a speedboat that will get you back to the other side of Ko Phi Phi. That’s the option that we chose because it was too late. There are not a lot of speedboats there (low competition) so the workers allow themselves to charge high prices for 20 minutes. We took the speedboat ride from loh lana bay and after bargaining the price we agreed for 500 baht.

Planning a good trip takes a lot of research. If you want to use your time properly and to not waste any on your trip, looking for things up, then you’ll need to do some research in advance.

The internet enables you to find all the information you need, but since there is so much information, it’s easy to get lost and confused.

We decided to make your life easier by helping you be precise and efficient when it comes to planning your trip. In the following post, we will share everything that my husband and I do before flying to our next destination.

Phases of Planning

  1. Deciding upon a destination
  2. Planning the overall itinerary
  3. Booking your flights – Our favorites sites are Kiwi and Skyscanner
  4. Booking your hotel
  5. Renting a car
  6. Finding attractions and restaurants at destination and tours.

Choosing your destination

Before starting to plan a trip, you first have to choose where you want to travel to. Choosing your destination depends upon a few things:

  1. When you want to travel (weather has a lot of influence)
  2. For how long – if you want to go for 5 days, for example, you should probably not travel far
  3. What do you want to get out of your trip? Shopping? Sunbathing? Hiking?
  4. What type is your trip? Are you traveling with your family? Going on a honeymoon? Backpacking alone?

So, how do you find your proper destination?

  • Searching by a cheap flight: You can go on websites like Kiwi and Skyscanner to search for the cheapest flights. You can enter your dates and it will find your destination.
  • Looking up a destination by doing research: You can go to google and find the latter parameters. You can search the following term: “best destinations for sunbathing in September in Europe.” You will get some results and find what you like.
  • Searching by getting recommendations from Facebook groups: There are plenty of great Facebook groups that you can ask people where you should go to, and base your decision according to what other people are saying. You should look up Tips4travel on Facebook.
  • Reading travel blogs: There are plenty of travel blogs that you can read of other’s experiences of your desired destination. It’s a great way to find out which destinations you’ll like.

If you are looking for a nice and cheap vacation, Paphos in Cyprus is definitely the place to go. There are great resorts there, good restaurants, bars, and many things to do.

During our vacation, we stayed in 2 different hotels. One was an apartment hotel Panklitos tourist and the other was a 4-stars hotel Capital Coast.

Things to do in Paphos

Fun Segway tour

We took a Segway tour with Paphos Segway Tours company. We were a group of eight and had two super nice guides, Liam and Callum.

After all the group members had arrived, we went outside for an instruction on the Segways. During the tour, we went through several interesting sites on Paphos, stopping at each one while the guide told us about the place. We rode along the sea a lot – it was really relaxing and I didn’t want the tour to end.

The company has longer, special tours for those already experienced with Segways. Maybe next time we’re In Paphos we’ll try one of the advanced tours.

Wine tastings

About a 30 minutes drive from Paphos center there’s a great winery that offers wine tastings for visitors, Tsangarides winery. From the moment we arrived, we fell absolutely in love with the place. The area is very idyllic and the design itself is very pretty as well. We sat outside and the owner, Angelos, brought 4 kinds of wine for us to try – White, Rosa, red and organic.

In addition to that, he served us some cheese and grapes as well. We chatted a lot and found him to be a really charming and humble person. At one point, a group of Hungarian journalists showed up and he gave them a tour of the winery, which we joined in on.

The winery produces as many as 300,000 bottles a year. It was really interesting learning about the winemaking process – we really like drinking wine and touring wineries. If you come as a couple or a small group the tastings are free. A larger group would have to pay 5-euros per person, which is a purely symbolic price.

We enjoyed the winery and meeting Angelos very much. If you like wine I think this is a wonderful experience for those staying in Paphos.

Breakfast at Johny’s Luncheonette

A really good American breakfast at reasonable prices. Considered as one of the best breakfasts in Manhattan. We both ordered poached eggs with Spanish roasted pepper, Bulgarian cheese, and crunchy pita bread on the side. It’s a really good option for a tasty, fast breakfast

Sight-seeing boat tour

After breakfast, we took a subway to the South Ferry Station in order to do a sight-seeing tour and to see the Statue of Liberty. Even though we are less into touristic attractions like this, it seems unreasonable to be in NYC and not see the Statue of Liberty, right? We ordered the tour from Groupon.

The tour was about an hour which was the right time in my opinion. It was a really nice experience, although it started to rain really heavily the moment we arrived in front of the Statue of Liberty, but we still had a good time.

Coffee and a pastry at Bibble and Sip

We wanted to drink a coffee so we walked to a bakery that looked nice from the outside and it was really good. We ordered two cappuccinos. I ordered a chocolate banana muffin and Roman ordered a brownie. They were fresh and delicious.

Breakfast at Johny’s Luncheonette

A really good American breakfast at a reasonable price at Johny’s Luncheonette, Considered as one of the best breakfasts in Manhattan. Roman ordered a typical American dish of pancakes with sausages and omelet. I ordered poached eggs with Spanish roasted pepper, Bulgarian cheese, and crunchy pita bread on the side.

We also received free coffee with it. My dish was so good. I really liked the crunchy pita and how the Spanish pepper was cooked; it was a light dish and a great way to start the morning. Roman was also very satisfied with his dish and it was pretty big, even for him. The bill was 16 USD so it’s a really good option for a tasty, fast breakfast.

The High line

After breakfast we continued to a really cool park: its height is 9m’ and it is 1.45-miles long on an old railroad. I really enjoyed the views from there and we took many pictures as well. It’s pretty shadowed, so it’s nice to walk there.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BgwLYE0ARdm/?hl=en&tagged=thehighline

Chelsea market

From the park, we continued to Chelsea market. You can go there from the park. This market is amazing! I recommend you to go there when you are hungry (unfortunately we weren’t) because there are so many restaurants that look so good.

There is also a part with cool stalls of souvenirs, jewelry, clothes, and more. There are special things that I didn’t see in other shops. In conclusion, this is a must-see market.

Harlem Tour

After lunch, we went to the meeting point of the tour that we had booked in advance. We took the tour of the company Free Tours by Foot. This company offers many tours that look very interesting. We decided to take this tour because we wanted to learn more about this area and also Harlem looks very cool so we wanted to tour there.

The tour was about 3 hours and the guide was funny, fascinating, and with a wide knowledge. He combined music with his explanations which were pretty awesome. The tour is free (based on tips).

Breakfast in Balthazar

Balthazar restaurant is considered as one of the top restaurants for breakfast. The food there is amazing and the service and atmosphere are great. My brother recommended us this place (he works in Manhattan). Roman ordered eggs benedict and we both agreed that it was the best we had ever eaten.

The eggs were cooked perfectly and the sauce was delicate and creamy. I ordered toast with guacamole, tomato, and eggs which were a great dish but the eggs benedict were my favorite.

Image by Traveling outside the box

Chinatown

After breakfast, we continued by foot to Chinatown. When we arrived there we certainly felt like we had arrived in China. We decided to buy bubble tea and to wander around. China town is full of Asian restaurants, shops, and has a great atmosphere. Because we had a very, very long flight (we traveled from India to NYC and it was a 16-hour flight) my neck and back hurt a little so I decided to have a Chinese massage for 15 minutes for my back and head for 10 USD. We saw it while we walked in Chinatown and it sounded like the perfect solution for my pain, and it was. The massage really released my muscles and I felt like a new person. I definitely recommend this break for a message especially if your back hurts.

The place where I had the message is called “Foot reflexology & body work”.

Best ramen soup

After two hours of walking, Roman got hungry. We passed near a Ramen restaurantm Bassanova ramen, and saw an article in google that says that it’s one of the best places for Ramen soup in Manhattan. So, of course, we had to try it.

The waitress recommended us the Ramen with lemon and black pepper. It sounded interesting so we took it and for a starter, we ordered a dumplings dish. The dumplings were crispy and really good and the soup was wonderful. It was so delicate in its flavors and the lemon and black pepper added a sour and spicy twist to the taste.

It was so good that we thought about ordering one more soup but we wanted to leave room for the cheesecake.

9/11 memorial

We continued by foot to the 9/11 memorial. It was about 30 minutes walking. The monument is so impressive. I think one of the most impressive memorials I have seen.

There is also a memorial museum. The line there was too long so we decided to spend our time watching the monument and to think about what happened in that place. I think that this place is a must to visit. Even if it’s for only a few minutes.

We didn’t get to go on many food tours in the past, but after our recent one in Athens – we might go to much more in the future. We booked our tour through Alternative Athens. We’ve seen several companies offering food tours, but the length (4 hours) and the number of culinary stops (8 stops) seemed an extremely worthwhile deal considering this tour’s price.

The choice turned out to be an excellent one: Our guide Andreas was charming and knowledgeable; his English was very clear and his stories were a joy to listen to. We finished the tour full and very satisfied. I think any foodie who likes to try new dishes, learning about the city and its cuisine all the while, will really enjoy this one as we did.

The food tour

We were a small group of five, along with our lovely guide Andreas. We met in the morning hours at a central location and our first stop was a local café for some traditional coffee. This was already a good start, as I didn’t have the time to get coffee beforehand. To be honest, we didn’t have breakfast either since we wanted to save room for the tour – and a lucky thing we did, as the tour definitely offers an impressive amount of food.

The tour included many food stops, but a lot of walking as well – we got to see all of Athens’ central areas. Additionally, the guide had many riveting stories to tell us about the city. We got to learn about the Greek culture and of Athens in particular through the local cuisine.

I don’t want to go into specifics when it comes to each dish we had, so as not to spoil the surprise for you – But I will mention some things and show a few pictures so you can get a feel for the culinary experience. We got to try a plethora of local foods and Greek-made products. The food was of really high-quality. And although at one point I was already tipsy and stuffed (Yes, the wine was included in the tour), I couldn’t help but try every dish.

Hanoi is the city of chaos that works somehow, the city that has all the Vietnamese street food you can imagine. You can spend days after days just wandering around and trying as many dishes as you can possibly imagine.

The nightlife in Hanoi is awesome and surprising. You can drink cheap beer and enjoy the cool atmosphere of the city.

Free tour in the old quarter

Hanoi Free Tours is a company that offers free tours (based on tips). The guides there are Vietnamese students who work in this company in order to practice their English and to earn some money.

Our guide was an 18-year-old guy that speaks English really well. The tour lasted about 3 hours. We were the only ones on this tour (just me and Roman) so it was like a private tour and it was awesome.

Our guide told us about the history of Hanoi and Vietnam in general, he knew a lot of stuff. He shared with us stories about the way he lives. We asked him many questions and he was so nice and answered everything. He even took us to his favorite place to eat sandwiches and to a hidden gem to drink coffee with a view to the lake. He also gave us tips and recommendations.

I really recommend this type of tour. The company offers other tours too, like in the French quarter or a food tour.

Waterpark inside a mall – Vinpearl Water Park

A great option for a rainy day. I wrote more about it in the post “Water Park Inside a Mall in Hanoi, Vietnam”. Also, in the mall, there are other activities, like 3d movies and ice skating so those are also great options.

A Snake meal in the Snake Village

An amazing, exotic, and tasty experience. If you are looking for an adventurous meal this is something you have to try. The whole experience is unforgettable. We went there with an Austrian couple we met in Tam Coc and we had an amazing time.
