But remarkable and delicate of all are the flocks of butterflies at the very top level of the Rain forest. The purple, blue and orange butterflies briskly fly by your head in flocks. The twisting 144 foot (44 meters) tall tower was designed by Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron together with Fong + Chan. It re-opened in 2005. Once you’re on the observation level, you experience breathtaking 360 degrees sweeping views of the city, the Golden Gate, Marin Headlands and you can see as far as Coit Tower and Bay Bridge.

The De Young Museum is home to American Art, International Contemporary Art, African, Oceanic, Art of the Americas, and houses more than 13,000 textiles and costumes from around the world. It also holds the annual flower show called Bouquets of Art where floral designers from the Bay Area and beyond, draw inspiration from the art in the de Young’s collection to create awesome flower arrangements.

You can also have a light bite or full lunch at the museum full-service cafe with outdoor seating. Don’t miss the magnificent Osher sculpture garden just outside.

Seated comfortably on a wide boat you can pick up the tour by the Chicago River on Michigan Avenue or by Navy Pier.
