Denmark and Sweden are two of the most visited Scandinavian countries, but until recently, there was no convenient way to cross between major cities. That all changed in the year 2000 when after many years of construction, the long-awaited Oresund Bridge was completed, connecting Copenhagen, Denmark, to Malmo, Sweden.

The Oresund Bridge is the longest combined road and rail bridge in all of Europe and is a combination of the 5-mile bridge over the beautiful Swedish coast, the 2.5-mile Drogden Tunnel, and the artificial island, Peberholm.

Copenhagen is the tourist capital of Denmark, and with its old, colorful architecture, great food, and clean and safe streets, it is a great city to visit on a vacation. Malmo is much smaller, but it is the third biggest city in all of Sweden and there is plenty to do there as well!

The bridge has helped the city grow tremendously over the past 20 years, opening up new opportunities for technology, education, and production, and the new, shiny buildings can attest to that.

The combination of planning, engineering, and the pure efficiency of the bridge make it a unique experience to travel across. There is much history between Denmark and Sweden and the ocean in between had been the dividing point between the two countries for thousands of years. Now you can make it from one country to the other in 30 minutes!
