While there are tons of natural treasures to visit around the world, one place that is often overlooked when traveling to new cities is libraries. And these libraries aren’t just for booklovers—they feature architectural wonders and one-of-a-kind designs. Check out these libraries, which are the most beautiful ones in the world.

Royal Portuguese Reading Room, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

The Royal Portuguese Reading Room, which was created in 1837, is certainly fit for a king or queen with it’s limestone exterior, dark wood arches, stained glass windows, and blue ceilings. The four-story building has 350,000 volumes to choose between at this gorgeous library.

Stuttgart City Library, Germany

This modern library which opened in 2011, is unlike any you have ever seen. It features a bright, white five-story layout, resembling a modern art gallery. One of the highlights is the reading room which is shaped like an upside-down pyramid.

George Peabody Library, Baltimore, Maryland

This library opened in 1878 and it’s part of Johns Hopkin University and you don’t have to be a student of the college to visit it. The library is five stories and has 300,000 volumes. Did we mention that it’s free to use?
