Perth, Australia might be one of the most isolated cities in the world, but the capital of Western Australia has plenty of things to see and do. Museums are one of the city’s strong points, as there are a number of them which showcase fantastic exhibitions about a number of topics.

If you find yourself traveling to Perth, be sure to add these three museums to your list of places to see.

Western Australia Museum

The Western Australia Museum is a deep dive into local history and culture in one of the most unknown and underappreciated parts of Australia. Currently closed while being renovated and improved, the Western Australia Museum is set to open its doors in the coming months as Perth’s premier museum.

Re-opening soon in November 2020!

Fremantle Prison

Just outside of Perth in the suburb of Fremantle is a World Heritage Site which showcases one of the strangest parts of Australia’s past. The island was once used as a penal colony for British prisoners, and the Fremantle Prison was one of the biggest in existence. Now it’s a museum and parts of its former cell blocks can be visited.

Hours: 9 am-5 pm, Monday-Sunday
Address: 1 The Terrace, Fremantle WA 6160

The Nostalgia Box

Video game lovers have to stop at the Nostalgia Box while in Perth, as it is a living and breathing ode to the history of the games and consoles which we have all grown up with. Showcasing nearly every console in existence and putting numerous classic games on exhibition to play, the Nostalgia Box is a unique and worthwhile place to visit in Perth.

Hours: 11 am-5 pm, Friday-Sunday
Address: 1/16 Aberdeen St, Perth WA 6000
