Northwestern Australia’s Broome is known for its incredible beaches and Indian Ocean wildlife. Its popularity made the destination quite expensive, but there are ways to visit Broome without going broke.

Staircase to the Moon

Try to make it to Broome between March and October around a full moon, since this natural spectacle is one you won’t forget: find a spot that overlooks Roebuck Bay as the moon rises, and see the visual illusion of the golden staircase reflecting in the bay’s water.

Town Beach Night Market

Another full moon attraction is the markets held in Town Beach, also one of the best viewing areas. Check out the moon and continue to have Southeast Asian street food at the market.

Camping at Broome Bird Observatory

If you’re camping, one of the best and cheapest places is a 15 minutes drive outside of town, the Broome Bird Observatory and research center. They have a camping and caravan park and get your wake-up call from some of the hundreds of thousands of birds in the area.

Cable Beach

The most famous beach in Broome, frequented by tourists and locals to enjoy the sunset, do some fishing, and watch the camel trains reflecting on the sand at low tide.
