Britain is home to some of the loveliest villages in the world. These little towns overflow with charm, history and fantastic country walks. Here are four of the most beautiful villages to visit in the UK.

Rye, East Sussex, England

An hour and a half from Brighton, Rye is both peaceful and picturesque. Its cobblestone streets are lined with charmingly crooked houses, eclectic vintage and antique shops, and lovely river views.

Snowshill, Gloucestershire, England

This pretty English village is famous for its lavender fields, located in the nearby Snowshill Manor. Other interesting things you can find on the National Trust property are Charles Wade’s eccentric collections of toys, furniture, and musical instruments.

Bamburgh, Northumberland, England

The seaside village of Bamburgh is located on the Northumberland coast in North East England. Its three main streets are lined with 18-century cottages turned pubs, cozy B&Bs, and charming tea rooms. But the real highlight is definitely Bamburgh Castle, which overlooks the town’s golden beach and grassy sand dunes from the top of a 190ft hill.

Betws-y-Coed, Conwy County Borough, Wales

Betws-y-Coed is surrounded by some of the most spectacular scenery Northern Wales has to offer. Lakes, gushing waterfalls, snow-capped mountains, natural hot springs, and lush forests make this Victorian village paradise for nature lovers.

No traveler can stay indifferent to the beauty of Andalucia. This Spanish region boasts stunning landscapes, fantastic food, and rich cultural history. It’s also famed for its beautiful white villages. Here are three spots to see in rural Andalucia, for those who are tired of bustling cities.

Cazalla de la Sierra, Saville

The town of Cazalla de la Sierra is located a little over an hour’s drive from the Andalusian capital of Saville. It boasts some outstanding examples of the religious architecture in Spain, such as Iglesia Parroquial de Nuestra Señora de Consolación, a church dating back to the 14th century.

Gaucín, Malaga

Malaga is mostly known for its lovely coast, but there is more to this province than its beaches. A little further inland you will find the gorgeous village of Gaucín, nicknamed the ‘balcony of Europe’. From its vantage point at 626m above sea level, you can see an incredible view of Gibraltar and North Africa.

Montefrío, Granada

One of the charming villages dotting the province of Granada is Montirefo, which literally translates to “the cold hill”. Besides the hilltop medieval temple, called Iglesia de la Villa, the town is also known for its large gypsy population. This makes it the perfect spot to see some flamenco in a local tablao.

Once you get to Iceland, you’ll find it difficult to stay in one place. There’s no need to, as the country is perfect for long road trips where you can discover beautiful waterfalls, volcanic craters, and glaciers. Depending on where you live, you may see some incredible natural wonders you’ve never seen before, and they are located a short drive from each other. Here are three remote villages that may not be on your radar but are definitely worth making a detour when you’re exploring the country.

Hvammstangi

Gorgeous landscapes will make you fall in love with Hvammstangi, a 19th-century trading post that you can reach after a scenic drive along the country’s northern coast. The Icelandic Seal Center has exhibitions on all kinds of seals that live in the North Atlantic and Arctic region. You can hop on a boat tour to see them.

Hólmavík

With only around 400 residents, Hólmavík has an interesting history that connects it to witchcraft. The Museum of Icelandic Sorcery and Witchcraft is a great place to get an insight into the history of witchcraft in Iceland.

Stykkishólmur

The beautiful village was the filming location for The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (Greenland in the movie). You can reach it from Reykjavik by car, and you’ll be there in two hours so it’s perfect for a day trip.

When traveling to Scotland, most people choose to visit its bigger cities like Edinburgh and Glasgow, but the country has many other amazing places you can see. Some of the most beautiful places are the small villages that you have to know about in order to find and visit them. Here are our favorites.

Crovie

Crovie is a tiny village in Aberdeenshire, Scotland that dates back to a time when sea transport was the only way to get people and goods from one place to another. It consists of a single row of houses that look like a postcard.

Luss

Located in Argyll and Bute, Luss is actually popular among tourists, but that shouldn’t keep you away from it. All those people visit it to see the cottages from the 18th and 19th centuries that look like they come from a historic TV show.

Hirta

Hirta is located in the remote archipelago of St. Kilda that consists of four islands—Soay, Boreray, Dun, and Hirta—and is protected by UNESCO. Nobody lives on Hirta today but you can visit the island and see the remains of former inhabitants that date back around 2,000 years.
