If you’re looking to embark on an exciting traveling adventure but you’re also not looking to break the bank, you’re in luck. That’s because there are plenty of places you can travel to that are incredibly cheap. The best part is that these places are also exciting in many ways, so you’re getting a lot of quality for a fraction of the price. Here are three countries that are super cheap to travel to.

Thailand

One of the most popular countries in the world to travel to is Thailand, and that’s because backpackers love it for its combination of affordability, natural beauty, party life, and luxury stays. Indeed, Thailand will certainly not cost you much if you can make it out there.

Vietnam

If it’s possible, Vietnam is even cheaper than Thailand. While also boasting natural beauty that warms the soul, Vietnam offers a bit more of a grittier aesthetic, which can also provide a powerful experience for the average backpacker.

Bali

Bali is a province of Indonesia, but we’ll allow it on this list, because it’s one of the most beautiful places you can visit in the entire world. And yet, while being such a hotspot, it’s also on the cheap side as well. If you’re looking to live the high life without constantly checking your bank account, Bali is a great option for you.

Vietnam, a country known for its vibrant culture, rich history, and delectable cuisine, also boasts some of the most breathtaking landscapes in Southeast Asia. While the beaches and historic landmarks usually get most of the limelight, Vietnam’s hiking trails offer an equally compelling reason to visit. Here’s why.

Accessibility for All Skill Levels

Vietnam offers trails for hikers of all skill levels, from novice to experienced trekkers. For those seeking a gentle hike, the terraced rice fields of Mu Cang Chai have easy paths with stunning views. Meanwhile, adrenaline seekers can embark on more challenging treks, like the ascent to Fansipan—the highest peak in Indochina.

Year-Round Adventure

Vietnam’s climate varies significantly from north to south, meaning there’s always a trail that’s in its prime, no matter when you visit. While the northern mountains are best hiked from September to November or from March to May, the southern highlands and coastal paths offer excellent conditions during the winter months.

Affordability

Compared to many other adventure travel destinations, Vietnam is relatively affordable. Accommodation, food, and transportation offer great value for money, making it easier to extend your hiking adventure without breaking the bank. The same goes for guided trekking tours and tour guides.

Fun fact: all noodles are pasta, but not all pasta is noodles. And when it comes to pasta and foodie travel, Italy tends to steal the spotlight, but the truth is that there are plenty of Asian countries that can give Bel Paese a run for its penne. Vietnam, in particular, is home to over 20 noodle dishes featuring fresh, local ingredients that continue to be prepared according to the country’s ancient culinary tradition. If you’re a pasta-enthusiast planning a trip to Vietnam, here are a few especially worth trying.

Phở

Arguably the most well-known noodle dish and the official national dish of Vietnam, phở is a savory soup made from thin rice noodles and meat in a delicate broth. The history of phở dates back over 100 years, with early versions consisting of rice cakes boiled with beef sold by street vendors in the Nam Định province. Today, variations of phở are enjoyed all over the country, often with fresh herbs, chili, and lime.

Bun Thit Nuong

Pork is a staple in Vietnamese cuisine, and one of the most common ways it’s consumed is along with some rice noodles in bún thịt nướng. Literally translated as “grilled meat on noodles,” bún thịt nướng is a flavorful dish consisting of smoky grilled pork, rice vermicelli, bean sprouts, herbs, and roasted peanuts. Vegetarian versions made with tofu also exist, though most vendors serve bún thịt nướng with a drizzle of fish sauce, so be sure to double-check if this is a concern.

Mì Quảng

Not for the faint of heart, mì quảng is a central Vietnamese dish featuring shrimp, meat, and quail eggs over a bed of wide noodles in a turmeric-infused broth. It’s typically served with herbs and native flowers, which balance the dish by providing a fresh, bitter element to an otherwise heavy composition.

Pink buildings are so popular with travelers that you can find dozens of Instagram pages dedicated to them. If you love them as much as the rest of the world, it’s time to put Tan Dinh Church on your bucket list because it’s one of the most picture-perfect buildings in all of Vietnam.

Located in the very heart of Ho Chi Minh City’s District 3, this religious building is formally known as the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It was built during the French colonial period and it went on to become one of the city’s most photographed attractions since opening its doors in 1876.

The pink church of Ho Chi Minh perfectly blends neo-Romanesque, neo-Gothic, and neo-Renaissance elements, but it didn’t always look the way it does today. Its exterior and interior were actually painted pink in 1957, and this renovation transformed it into one of the city’s most Instagram-friendly spots.

The vivid pink color of its façade is highlighted by its white patterns, and the church features several smaller towers in addition to its main clock tower. You will be equally impressed by it if you decide to step inside because it’s decorated with Italian marble altars and features walls painted in strawberry and cream hue, reminiscent of its exterior.

Most people visiting Vietnam tend to stick to Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi, but this country has many more amazing cities in store. Da Nang is one of the very best cities you can visit over there, and there are more reasons than one why you should consider paying it a visit.

Historical Heritage

There are many historical sites and ancient temples to be found in Da Nang and its close proximity. The remains of abandoned Hindu temples Mỹ Sơn are popular day-trip destinations, but there are also many well-preserved temples in the city itself too.

Natural Beauty

The Marble Mountains are Da Nang’s number one tourist attraction, but there are many other natural wonders to see. White sand beaches along its coast are just as popular with the tourists and locals.

Local Markets

If you want to feel like a local while in Da Nang, make sure to check out its markets. Hàn Market is the first one that comes to mind, but Con Market is also worth the visit.

Architectural Wonders

Da Nang’s architecture is pretty diverse and it’s the perfect mix of new and old. Some of its most stunning architectural gems happen to be bridges, including the quirky Dragon Bridge and the picture-perfect Golden Bridge in the nearby Bà Nà Hills resort.

Cities

The cities of Vietnam are vibrant hubs that have elements of history and modernity at every corner. Visit the Old Quarter of Hanoi and walk through ancient streets and old Vietnamese architecture.
