Does a vacation in Europe feel out of reach? If so, you’ll be happy to learn that there are several cities in the United States that you can visit that feel and look authentically European. Here are some places where you can enjoy a European getaway without needing your passport.

St. Augustine, Florida

The oldest city in the United States, St. Augustine was founded by Spanish explorers in 1565. As a result of its origins, this Floridian city is home to Spanish Renaissance Revival-style buildings just like those that can be found in Spain itself. St. Augustine’s architecture, along with its sunny Floridian weather, will make you feel as if you’re on an Iberian summer vacation.

Holland, Michigan

Founded by Dutch immigrants in the 1800s, Holland, Michigan lives up to its name. This town is the home of the only working Dutch windmill in the U.S. If that’s not enough, the community’s annual Tulip Time Festival will make you feel as if you’re in the Dutch countryside.

Leavenworth, Washington

Designed to look like a German village in the 1960s, it’s no wonder why Leavenworth is a dead ringer for a mountain German town. With its view of the Cascade Mountains and its Alpine-style buildings, this town not only looks but also acts Bavarian, with its annual Oktoberfest celebrations, endless beer halls, and its Nutcracker museum.

Flea markets are a super exciting place where you can find things that are totally unique, which is the best part of going!

Every treasure you find you can be confident in because you know there are slim to none others out there. So if you love everything antique, from vintage clothes to furniture and more, you have to travel to Brimfield, Massachusets to see the Brimfield Antique Flea Market, which is the longest running and largest flea markets in all of the US.

Brimfield has been around now for 60 years now and has run every year since its inception. The market is so large that it would take you hours to walk from one end to the other, which isn’t surprising considering there are over 6,000 vendors that show up to the market. Although the Brimfield Flea Market only happens 3 times a year, it’s actually 5 days long so there is enough time to see as much of the market as possible.

In order to plan your trip best, make sure that you consider what time of year you’re going since the second is in the summer and usually the hottest. Also, no matter what time of the year you go, make sure you get there as early as you can because as they say, the early bird gets the worm.

Saint Paul, Minnesota is one of the two twin cities, along with Minneapolis. Saint Paul has had a huge growth spurt in the last few years and is quickly becoming a really popular place for tourists and new residents. So, if you ever find yourself there, you have to check out these incredible joints.

Salty Tart

This cafe not only has amazing brunch and coffee but is run by Michelle Gayer, who has been nominated 10 times for a James Beard Award in many categories, including Outstanding Baker. As you can imagine, Salty Tart has some insane pastries and baked goods, from croissants and cupcakes to pies, meringues and everything in between.

Blue Door Pub

The Blue Door Pub serves up classic Minnesota, and really all-American, favorites like burgers, but with a twist. Their most famous burger is called the Blucy, as features incredible blue cheese, garlic, and more. This is a local favorite and you really can’t go wrong with anything you find on the menu, so dig in!

Saint Dinette

This contemporary restaurant is not completely modern and upscale, but rather upgrades the classics you grew up with as a child. One of their most popular dishes is the bologna sandwich, which even includes American cheese but is one that’s actually made in-house!
