If you don’t want to explore the Great Barrier Reef from afar, you can see it up close by joining one of the boat and helicopter tours from Townsville. Diving and snorkeling tours are also pretty popular with the tourists visiting this city.

What makes the visit to the Museum of Underwater Art different than your usual diving adventure is all the amazing art you’ll get to see along the way. It was designed by the world-famous underwater sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor, who managed to create a unique blend of art and marine science.
The main mission behind this museum is to inspire reef conversation and start a conversation about its importance. The sculptures serve as amazing areas for coral growth because they’re made of stainless steel and pH-neutral cement. They’re also safe for other marine creatures, such as octopuses and sea urchins.
