Tomamu Ice Village is located around 90 miles from the island’s capital Sapporo and it’s easily reachable from there. It offers a chance to “enjoy the fantastical atmosphere of cold” with temperatures dropping all the way to -30°C. This means that you should bring enough layers to keep you warm while visiting!

The Ice Village offers a stay in the Ice Hotel, where everything is made of ice. In the Ice Bar, you can drink cocktails from ice glasses. The Ice Café has bookshelves made of ice, and Ice Slide is a very popular place with a great view. 

“The mystical world of snow invites guests to experience the magic of winter,” the staff told Lonely Planet. There are so many activities for kids as well, so this makes for a great location for a family winter vacation!
