]]> Teenagers, no matter what the circumstances, can be a tricky group to deal with. From parental embarrassment to a desire to be attached to their mobile devices at all times, it might seem impossible to design a trip in which both parents and teens end up being satisfied and happy.

However, there is no need to fear! With just a little bit of planning, patience, and understanding, you can have a great time when traveling with your teens. Here are some strategies to follow.

Be Patient

Patience is a virtue, and this is especially true when being the parent of a teenager. If your teen complains or doesn’t feel like doing something that you want to do or that you had proposed, don’t freak out. Be patient, and realize that they’ll probably come around to it sooner or later.

Mix in Some Fun

Everyone just wants to have a little fun, but your definition of fun and your teenager’s definition of fun might be a little different. So, do your best to propose fun activities for your teenagers, even if they might not fit into your personal ideal plans.

Be Willing to Compromise

The ability to compromise is a necessary skill in life, and it really leads to keeping everyone content and happy. A little give and take is important in any family relationship and can be key in keeping everyone on board during a trip, especially with teens.

Our final few days in Kenya were spent at Naivasha specifically to go to Hell’s Gate National Park. This was a different kind of safari. No bunny roads in the safari van, just the four of us on a dirt road cycling past the animals. There are no large predators here, so we were able to see more zebra, gazelles, and topi close up without the noise of a vehicle. We bikes around 10km to the rangers station and then went on a hike to see the area that inspire the Lion King movie. We couldn’t go further in due to that part of the park being closed until mid march.
