Before you move somewhere new or go on a big trip, a lot of people give you the advice to take advantage of your time there. While this is encouraging, and adventures are always welcome, it can come with some stressful baggage that you don’t need to carry around.

If you find yourself compromising yourself in order to take advantage of your time as well as you can, stop!

The idea of taking advantage of your time is rooted in good nature, but it gives you the idea that every second of the day needs to be used in a productive way. Although you might not be able to go back somewhere often or have the opportunity you have again, you still have to do average things and live your life normally, even if you’re in an incredible place.

Instead of the mentality to take advantage of your time, try to challenge yourself to try something new, whether that’s every day, once a week, or however often you feel like you want to and that it would benefit you.

A great way to challenge yourself is to try new local food, take a language course, go to a festival, or even take a dance class!
