]]> Atlanta has the distinction of being the city with the busiest airport in the world every year since 2000. Since so many airlines have stopovers here, you may find yourself with a few hours in between flights.

Here are some easy destinations to get to while you wait for your next plane to depart.

Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site

“Hotlanta” as it is called thanks to the sweltering summer heat, is the birthplace of Martin Luther King Jr. The city played an important role in the Civil Rights movement and therefore a visit to the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site is only fitting.

Centennial Olympic Park

In the heart of downtown lies the famous Centennial Olympic Park, the site of the 1996 Olympic Games. The Botanical Garden and Piedmont Park are both beautiful places in their own right and host many concerts, shows, and events in the summer.

Southern Food

In addition, “The new capital of the South” has some great southern food. Southern BBQ’s, fried chicken, and all sorts of pies are just some of the southern variety available throughout the city.

If you have a stopover in Atlanta it’s worth it to stretch your legs in the city!
