Shenandoah brings up a lot of different meanings. It is a valley which was a strategic stronghold in the Civil War. The Shenandoah River flows through here and meets with the Potomac at Harper’s Ferry. It was also made famous in a couple of folk and rock songs. But best of all, it is a beautiful National Park, that is most gorgeous in the fall.

Highlighted by the famous Skyline Drive, this National Park attracts over 1 million visitors a year. Its close proximity to D.C. (1.5 hours), means that a lot of people come for day trips especially on the packed weekends.

The Appalachian Trail goes through the park, and many hikers who have done all 2,200 miles say that this is the nicest section of the trail.

While driving on Skyline Drive, there are plenty of places to stop off for great views, and lots of amazing trails ranging from a nice half-mile stroll to multi-day hikes. While it is beautiful to visit any time of year, and even the winter has its own quiet beauty, Shenandoah is most famous for its incredible fall foliage.
