Many people visit Las Vegas craving its shiny lights but did you know that one of Sin City’s most vibrant attractions is located in the middle of the desert? We’re not talking about the lavish casinos or five-star resorts, but about the colorful rock installation Seven Magic Mountains.

The Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone created this public art installation, composed of 33 limestone boulders in different bright colors. Each rock is between 30 and 35 feet tall, and they’re stacked atop of each other to form seven separate, but equally colorful towers.

When it was first set up in the middle of the desert, right outside of Las Vegas, the Seven Magic Mountains wasn’t supposed to stay there for too long. The original plan was to leave it in the desert for two years, but the plans eventually changed, and its installation has been extended until 2021.

You can visit this art installation free of charge, but it’s not so easy to reach due to its secluded location, and renting a car is your best bet. Seven Magic Mountains is worth the trip because it’s one of the most picture-perfect spots in the area, just keep in mind you shouldn’t climb the rocks during your visit—and you can get great photos without doing this, anyway.
