National Folk Museum

The National Folk Museum provides visitors with a great insight into South Korea’s traditions. You’ll find replicas of historic objects alongside authentic artifacts that illustrate how people used to live in the country through different stages in history. The museum features three exhibition halls and a collection with over 98,000 items.

National Museum of Korean Contemporary History

Opened in 2012, the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History focuses on the modern history of South Korea. There are four exhibit halls dedicated to items and topics that cover a period from the 19th century to the present day. Visitors can also enjoy various events or take part in educational programs. 

National Museum of Korea

Finally, the National Museum of Korea is the most important museum in the entire country. It displays artifacts from prehistoric to modern times, including remains of primitive weapons, old manuscripts, relics, traditional South Korean arts and crafts, and jewelry. The museum also houses 14 of South Korea’s 302 National Treasures.

Seoul has an array of wonderful things to offer, but many can be quite costly, especially compared to the rest of Southeast Asia. If you are traveling on a budget, here are five ways you can get the most of the beautiful location without having to splash any cash.

Go to a Museum

Many of the museums in Seoul are completely free. Visitors can learn about the country’s history and culture without spending a dime.

Visit the Temples

There are plenty of Buddhist temples to visit in the city. Even if you are not particularly spiritual, the beautiful buildings offer insight into the country’s unique cultural history.

Eat Street Food

Instead of eating at a restaurant, hit the food stalls on the side of the road. You’ll find plenty of cheap eats and lots of yummy ramen.

Go For a Stroll

Seoul is a city you can interact with without having to pay a penny. Walking around stunning villages like Bukchon Hanok Village is completely free and a wonderful way to spend the afternoon.
