This British overseas territory is located over 1,500 miles from the coast of South Africa and over 2,000 miles off of the coast of Argentina, meaning that there is truly nothing close. What’s more is that it takes quite a journey to even get here, with the only way to access the island being a six-day boat trip from South Africa.

With a population of under 300, you’ll definitely be able to escape and just get away from it all while in Tristan da Cunha. Don’t think that there’s nothing to do on this remote island, however.

One of the best ways to get to know this land is to simply stay with and talk to its people. With no hotels or hostels, your best bet for lodging is to stay with a local family.
