There are many obvious choices for countries to put on your bucket list, and some not so obvious. However, we’re here to shed some light on some you may not have on your bucket list, such as New Zealand. Keep reading for three great reasons why you should add New Zealand to your bucket list.

Natural Beauty

New Zealand is home to some of the most spectacular natural beauty that few places can rival. Some nature in New Zealand looks like the tropics or like you have stepped into Thailand, making it a truly unique travel destination, with beautiful beaches and bright blue water. Theres also many magnificent hikes, with lush green trees.

Real “Middle Earth”

Fans of Lord of the Rings will enjoy visiting the real “Middle Earth,” where many scenes of the Hobbit was filmed and what the fictional town found its inspiration upon. Wander your way through where you will find hobbit holes, and famous special effect studios.

Wildlife

New Zealand is home to many unique wild life wonders including birds, marine mammals, and reptiles. This is your unique opportunity to swim with dolphins and get up and close and personal with penguins.

Antarctica, often described as the last frontier, is a land of stark, icy beauty and incredible wildlife encounters. This remote and frozen continent offers an unparalleled experience for those who venture to its shores.

As you cruise along the Antarctic Peninsula, the scenery is breathtaking — vast, white landscapes and towering icebergs create a serene backdrop. But it’s the wildlife that truly captures the heart of Antarctica. The region is home to an array of species perfectly adapted to the harsh environment.

Penguins & Whales

Emperor and Adélie penguins are the stars of the show, waddling comically on ice and diving gracefully into the frigid waters. Observing their colonies, which number in the thousands, is a surreal and heartwarming experience. Whales, including humpbacks and orcas, can be seen breaching and feeding, providing a spectacular display of their size and grace. One of the most unique water creatures are Commersons dolphins, known for their panda-like coloring.

Seals & Albatross

Seals, such as the Weddell and Leopard, lounge on ice floes, occasionally sliding into the water with surprising agility. Bird enthusiasts will be thrilled by sightings of seabirds like the Antarctic petrel and the imposing albatross, whose wingspan is awe-inspiring.

The silence of the landscape, punctuated only by the sounds of its inhabitants, makes for a truly profound experience. In this icy wilderness, one feels the true essence of nature’s splendor and the privilege of witnessing life at the edge of the world.

South Africa probably isn’t the first country you think of when someone mentions penguins, but a colony of these adorable birds truly call it home. Boulders Beach became one of the top day-trip destinations from Cape Town thanks to the group of African penguins that inhabit it.

A colony of African penguins settled on the shores of Boulders Beach in 1982, transforming it into one of South Africa’s top tourist attractions over the course of the next four decades. There are between 3,000 birds roaming around the beach and their species is on the verge of extinction.

That’s why Boulders Beach is under Cape Nature Conservation’s protection and the penguins can be seen roaming freely in their natural environment. Foxy Beach is the best place to observe them because it offers boardwalks taking you just a few meters away from the birds.

Located about an hour away from Cape Town, Boulders Beach can be easily accessed by car, or by a train heading to the nearby Simon’s Town. Daily conservation and entry fee for adults is priced at around $10, but it’s important to keep in mind that you shouldn’t come too close to the penguins or try feeding them.

What place comes to mind when you think about penguins? While Antarctica is probably the answer to this question, Earth’s most untouched continent isn’t the only place in the Southern Hemisphere where these cute black and white creatures can be seen.

If you’re looking to see penguins in the wild and in person, here are three unexpected places where you can also travel to check them out.

Cape Town, South Africa

Yep, that’s right — you can find penguins in Africa if you travel to Cape Town! This world-famous city is the home of penguin colonies on several of its beautiful beaches, which provide an almost unbelievable sight for tourists to see.

Tierra del Fuego, Argentina

You might think more about wine and steak when you think about Argentina, but by traveling to the southernmost tip of this South American country, you will be able to come face-to-face with Magellanic penguins, a species native to the region.

. . #estanciaargentina #pinguino #isla #pinguinera #pinguinosargentinos #fauna #faunalibre #faunaargentina #argentina #naturaleza #natural #turismo #turismonacionar #turismoresponsable

Melbourne, Australia

It might seem hard to believe, but you can actually find penguins lounging on the beaches of Australia’s southern coast as well. Fairy penguins, a small and extremely cute species, are particularly numerous in the natural reserves and islands near the city of Melbourne.
