Thailand is home to more magnificent temples than we can count, but there’s something that sets the Sanctuary of Truth apart. This Hindu-Buddhist temple in Pattaya was constructed entirely out of wood and that’s what makes it so unique.

History and Location

Pattaya is located about 100 kilometers southeast of Bangkok, and the Sanctuary of Truth is its most iconic attraction. The Thai businessman Lek Viriyaphan started the process of construction all the way back in 1981, and this temple is still partly unfinished and it won’t be fully completed before 2025.

The Sanctuary of Truth may be a work in progress, but that’s not stopping it from being one of the most impressive temples in all of Thailand. It’s was envisioned in the Ayutthaya style, and several different types of woods have been used to give each corner of this temple a unique texture.

Major Hotspot

The Sanctuary of Truth is open to visitors every day between 8 am and 6 pm and there are many fun activities you can enjoy during your visit. After exploring this beautiful woodcarving structure inside and out, you can take ATV or speed boat rides, or give elephant and horse riding a try.

Pattaya gets a bad rep for being one of the seedier cities in Thailand, but recently it has been on a mission to change its image into a family fun place to visit. This is awesome because there are a whole bunch of fantastic things to do in the city, so much so that we are giving you a list of our favorites.

Ramayana Water Park

Ramyana is a world-class water park and is the best in Thailand and the second best in Asia. If you are a thrillseeker, you can hit the boomerang and the terrifying floor-dropping looping slide. For family fun, there are plenty of two-person dingy rides and a massive lazy river for everyone to enjoy.

Pattaya Ethical Elephant Sanctuary

Pattaya’s ethical elephant sanctuary re-homes elephants that have been rescued from unethical elephant riding companies. Here, you can spend the day hanging with land’s biggest mammal, feeding them and giving them mud baths.

Alcazar Cabaret Pattaya

When in Thailand, you have to go see a show. They’re exciting, visually stimulating and always over the top. It’s a great way to spend an evening.

Koh Samed

A short ride from Pattaya is the paradise island of Koh Samed. It’s a beautiful getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Underwater World

Pattaya’s aquarium is incredibly impressive and has a huge collection of tropical fish. If you book in advance, you can go swimming with sharks and stingrays. If this isn’t your cup of tea, you can feed the fish and watch shows too.
