Interesting History

Founded in 1621, the University of Oxford’s Botanical Garden is one of the oldest scientific gardens in the world and the oldest botanic garden in Britain.

Diverse Collections

With over 5000 different plant species packed into about 4 1/2 acres, this is one the most diverse but compact plant collections in the world.

The Danby Gateway

This beautiful piece of architecture was built in 1632 and was one of the first structures to use the Baroque neo-classical style.

Harcourt Arboretum

Just a 15-minute drive outside of Oxford is the majestic arboretum, spread across 130 acres of picturesque historic landscape, it has one of the largest conifer collections in the world. This is a must-see for nature lovers everywhere.

Oxford is a magical city in the UK that inspired many writers throughout history. It’s also home to the oldest university in the country. Authors and poets like Lewis Carroll, J. R. R. Tolkien, Oscar Wilde, and many others visited the city and wrote some of their best works while there.

If you love books, Oxford needs to be on your list of cities to visit. It will charm you with amazing architecture and so many bookshops, especially independent, charity, and second-hand shops.

One of the most famous bookstores in Oxford is Blackwell. It was founded in 1879 and if you don’t know about it, you can easily miss it. The outside doesn’t look too glamorous, but inside you will find Norrington Room, the largest single room selling books in the world. It contains three miles of shelves and it has pretty much everything from serious academic works to the latest non-fiction bestsellers.

Another great place to visit is The Last Bookshop, a charming store located near the city center in the suburb of Jericho. It’s the place where you will find cheap second-hand books and discover some real gems.

After you’re done browsing, visit one of the many literary pubs in Oxford for a relaxing night out!
