Oaxaca doesn’t get as much attention as some other cities in Mexico, but it’s definitely worth the trip. Fans of classic architecture will feel right at home in this city, especially if they decide to explore one of these three magnificent religious buildings.

Church of Santo Domingo

This Baroque building is one of the symbols of Oaxaca, but it’s so much more than just a church. Santo Domingo is also home to the Cultural Centre of Oaxaca, which has an extensive collection of pre-Columbian artifacts on display. An ethnobotanical garden is also located on the premises.

Basilica of Nuestra Señora de Soledad

This is another Baroque structure that you must check out while in Oaxaca. Due to frequent earthquakes in the area, this basilica was built with low spires and towers, in an attempt to resist natural disasters.

Oaxaca Cathedral

This cathedral is another classic building in Oaxaca that should be explored inside and out. It took over two centuries to complete it, and its history is pretty turbulent since it fell victim to several earthquakes, both before and after opening its doors in 1733.
