New York City is world-famous for its vibrant culture, iconic landmarks, and an incredible array of museums. While some might think enjoying these cultural gems requires deep pockets, that’s not the case! There are plenty of fantastic museums in the Big Apple that you can visit without spending a dime.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Yes, you read that right! While The Met suggests a donation, it actually operates on a pay-what-you-wish basis for New York residents and students from New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Wander through ancient Egyptian artifacts, marvel at Renaissance masterpieces, and get lost in contemporary art—all for free.

The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA)

MoMA, one of the foremost modern art museums in the world, offers free admission on the first Friday of each month from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Take advantage of this opportunity to see works by iconic artists like Van Gogh, Warhol, and Picasso without spending a penny.

The National Museum of the American Indian

Situated in the historic Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House, this museum offers free admission daily. The National Museum of the American Indian showcases the rich history, art, and culture of Native Americans. It’s well worth the visit!

When you’re flying to New York, you have three main options for airports: Newark, LaGuardia, and JFK. Though they each have their benefits, it is still pretty pricy to get in and out of the airports and into the city. If you’re planning a trip to New York and you want to find out the best ways to get from your airport into the city, this is the guide for you.

Airtrain

If you’re flying from Newark or JFK, you can take an AirTrain, which will drop you off in different parts of the city depending on which airport you’re coming from. The tickets range from about $7-$12, so it’s definitely the cheapest option. However, you then have to take a bus or subway to your final destination, which can be a hassle.

Airport Shuttle

There a few good airport shuttle companies like Go Airlink that you can seriously trust and are a great deal. The tickets per person are about $25, but you get dropped right at your exact location which is convenient and lets you worry less. Also, if you’re flying in LaGuardia, this is probably the best option for you since there is no direct bus or train from Manhattan to the airport.
