Have you ever reached for your glass of Sangria while you sit on a stunning beach admiring the view, only to notice that your normally strong and healthy nails are looking a little worse for wear? Unfortunately, many of the activities we take part in when on vacation, from sunbathing to swimming, can weaken and damage our nails. Check out these quick remedies and products which you can pack before you go, to avoid any nail disasters and maintain your manicure for as long as possible.

Oil

A simple cosmetic oil, such as almond or rosehip, will work wonders if you massage it into your nails and the skin around them once or twice a day. You don’t need a large bottle, so this won’t steal too much space in your luggage. Make sure you let it sink in before you get your hands wet or apply any other cosmetics.

Nail Strengthener

It may be worth applying a coat or two of a good-quality nail strengthener before you head on vacation. If you get your nails done professionally, talk to your manicurist about this, or simply apply it yourself straight from the bottle. Some amount of UV rays are helpful when it comes to strengthening nails, so you want a translucent base that will let some of these rays through without absorbing so many that your nails become brittle and weak.

Nail File

A great way to keep your nails in top condition is to file off any weak or brittle sections before they have a chance to snap. Bring a file with you on vacation, so you can take care of your nails and attend to them if they start suffering from the sun, sea, and sand. When you’re filing, use gentle motions and don’t press too hard with the file.

If you’re extremely committed to your beauty routine, you’re probably always trying to keep your nails in a good shape—even when you’re on the road. It’s tough to take all the nail products you need with you, but there are some tricks you can use to keep your manicure amazing.

Gel or Acrylic Nails

If your natural nails aren’t in such great shape, you should take gel or acrylic manicure into consideration. Your nails will be stronger and more resistant this way, which can come in handy during your travels. If you’re still not used to gel and acrylic nails, keep them short in the beginning since you won’t be able to fix them on your own if they break.

Top Coat

If you insist on keeping your nails natural but enjoy using nail polish, make sure to add top coat to the mix. Your nail polish will last longer this way because the top coat will protect the color and give it a gloss finish.

Neutral Colors

If you want your nails to match all your outfits, make sure to stick to neutral colors. Instead of packing countless nail polishes, go with one or two, and consider glittery polishes because they do a great job hiding chips on your nails.
