For avid travelers and hikers, climbing the highest peak in each state is a big goal that takes years to accomplish. Some mountains may take days to summit and require experience, while others are short strolls. If you want to knock off two in one day then head to Maryland and Pennsylvania for two short, but rewarding hikes to the highest points of each state.

In Maryland, the highest point is called Hoye-Crest and it’s about a two-mile hike round trip. You will be rewarded with great mountain views and some picnic benches at the top.

Only an hour north of Hoye-Crest, is Mount Davis, the highest point in Pennsylvania. You can either drive straight to the top or do a combination of one to five-mile hikes depending on how much time you have. In the fall there are great foliage views, and in the summer, the Allegheny mountains provide a nice green scenery.

In between you can stop at the smallest Post Office and smallest church in mainland America, both right next to each other in Silver Lake, West Virginia!
