Congratulations, you’ve decided that you want to become a mountaineer. If that’s true, then you know that the world of mountaineering is a dangerous one, and that you have no business trying to climb a mountain you’re not ready for. It’s a lot wiser (and we’d even say essential) to start off with much easier mountains first, to warm yourself up and get in the spirit of things. Here are some beginner mountains for you to get the juices flowing.

Pikes Peak, Colorado – 14,115ft

Let’s be clear here. Even though these are easier mountains, we’d still recommend going with an experienced guide to start off. That being said, this peak is one of the easiest to scale, and you’ll have the time of your life. In fact, Pikes Peak is so popular that it attracts up to 500,000 people each year.

Mount Whitney, California – 14,505ft

Mount Whitney is the highest mountain in continental America, but don’t let that frighten you. It has a trail that you can easily follow all the way to the top, and reaching the summit is a real treat.

Mount Rainier, Washington – 14,410ft

Mount Rainier is part of a volcano, which makes it a bit trickier than your typical beginner mountain. That being said, it’s still not much higher than 14,000 feet, making it quite accessible for those looking to get into mountaineering.
