Adjacent to the Space Needle in Seattle is the Museum of Pop Culture, a building that was designed by Gehry and opened in 2000. The Canadian architect designed a chaotic, modern building that, in his own words, was inspired by a smashed electric guitar. It’s definitely eye-catching.

]]> Did you know that there is a capital city in Central Asia that is an absolute paradise for lovers of architecture?

The city of Ashgabat, which is the largest city in Turkmenistan with a population of just over 1,000,000, is world-renowned for its beautiful buildings. The theme of this city is white, which has given it the nickname “The White City.”

After its separation from the Soviet Union, leaders in Turkmenistan decided to make Ashgabat into a city with a beautiful and unique architectural style. Since the early 1990s, the government has erected a wide variety of white buildings and monuments, made primarily with marble, to make this dream a reality.

The city has an array of striking and beautiful palaces with this architectural them. From the brand new Wedding Palace to the Oguzkhan Presidential Palace, you will marvel at the white buildings that blend modernist elements with traditional architecture.

Be sure to check out the Türkmenbaşy Ruhy Mosque as well as the city’s other religious centers, as well, to see just how prevalent this new architectural theme is in Ashgabat.

The City of White (Marble): Ashgabat, Turkmenistan ⁣ ⁣ Turkmenistan has some of the largest natura gas reserves in the world and it is run by a dictator. That means he can do whatever he wants with the money. ⁣ ⁣ He is really into the color white, so he built 543 new buildings lined with white marble covering a total area of 4.5 million square meters. The marble is imported from Italy and Venice!! Can you imagine!! ⁣ ⁣ If you live in Ashgabat and have a car, that car must be white. Seriously. And when you leave town and re-enter the city, it is expected that your car will be clean meaning that you should clean it on the road before re-entering the city. 🙄⁣ ⁣ The most fascinating thing about all the gigantic marble buildings and monuments is that very few people seemed to be enjoying them or even inside of them. I saw a lot of people in the city center near a large market, but the new areas were nearly deserted. ⁣ ⁣ Oh, and it is probably the cleanest city that I’ve ever been to. You see women regularly sweeping the streets and street sweeper trucks go up and down everyday. I still did see some plastic rubbish and pointed it out to my guide. 😝 ⁣ ⁣ Have you ever seen a city in the world that was mostly one color?!? #catchmeinturkmenistan

Located on the banks of the Vltava River in Prague is the Dancing House, one of Gehry’s most controversial projects. Opened in 1992, this slanted, angular building contrasts sharply with the Gothic and Baroque architectural styles found throughout the city. It is, without a doubt, a work of art.

Museum of Pop Culture: Seattle, Washington, USA

Adjacent to the Space Needle in Seattle is the Museum of Pop Culture, a building that was designed by Gehry and opened in 2000. The Canadian architect designed a chaotic, modern building that, in his own words, was inspired by a smashed electric guitar. It’s definitely eye-catching.

]]> Did you know that there is a capital city in Central Asia that is an absolute paradise for lovers of architecture?

The city of Ashgabat, which is the largest city in Turkmenistan with a population of just over 1,000,000, is world-renowned for its beautiful buildings. The theme of this city is white, which has given it the nickname “The White City.”

After its separation from the Soviet Union, leaders in Turkmenistan decided to make Ashgabat into a city with a beautiful and unique architectural style. Since the early 1990s, the government has erected a wide variety of white buildings and monuments, made primarily with marble, to make this dream a reality.

The city has an array of striking and beautiful palaces with this architectural them. From the brand new Wedding Palace to the Oguzkhan Presidential Palace, you will marvel at the white buildings that blend modernist elements with traditional architecture.

Be sure to check out the Türkmenbaşy Ruhy Mosque as well as the city’s other religious centers, as well, to see just how prevalent this new architectural theme is in Ashgabat.

The City of White (Marble): Ashgabat, Turkmenistan ⁣ ⁣ Turkmenistan has some of the largest natura gas reserves in the world and it is run by a dictator. That means he can do whatever he wants with the money. ⁣ ⁣ He is really into the color white, so he built 543 new buildings lined with white marble covering a total area of 4.5 million square meters. The marble is imported from Italy and Venice!! Can you imagine!! ⁣ ⁣ If you live in Ashgabat and have a car, that car must be white. Seriously. And when you leave town and re-enter the city, it is expected that your car will be clean meaning that you should clean it on the road before re-entering the city. 🙄⁣ ⁣ The most fascinating thing about all the gigantic marble buildings and monuments is that very few people seemed to be enjoying them or even inside of them. I saw a lot of people in the city center near a large market, but the new areas were nearly deserted. ⁣ ⁣ Oh, and it is probably the cleanest city that I’ve ever been to. You see women regularly sweeping the streets and street sweeper trucks go up and down everyday. I still did see some plastic rubbish and pointed it out to my guide. 😝 ⁣ ⁣ Have you ever seen a city in the world that was mostly one color?!? #catchmeinturkmenistan

Located on Dubai’s waterfront and featuring a private beach and luxury rooms, this hotel is meant to evoke an ocean wave and transmit calm and relaxation to guests.
