The breathtaking Iguazu Falls are one of Latin America’s natural wonders that everyone wants to see at least once in a lifetime. The good news is that you can reach them from both Argentina and Brazil, and here’s a couple of facts you should know before making it there.

Incredible Legend

Legend has it that this show-stopping waterfall was created by a powerful deity, who split the river in half after a mortal woman named Naipi refused to marry him and tried to escape his wrath with her lover.

Scientific Explanation

This sure sounds like an epic story, but scientists claim that one of the world’s most beautiful waterfalls actually came to be during a big volcanic eruption.

Historic Reaction

Many famous people and historic figures had a chance to visit Iguazu Falls – including First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. Legend has it she uttered the words “Poor Niagara!” after seeing this waterfall for the first time.

Speaking of famous people, Iguazu Falls also served as a backdrop for the scenes in some of Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters, including Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Black Panther.

Did you know that the largest waterfall system in the world is Iguazú Falls in South America?

One of the most amazing sights for any traveler visiting South America is Iguazú Falls on the border between Brazil and Argentina. Its spectacular roaring water is an unforgettable experience for anyone that is lucky enough to see its power in person.

Iguazú Falls can be accessed either from the Brazilian or the Argentinian side of the falls. Two towns serve as the gateway to the falls, one in each country. Visitors often set up their base either in Puerto Iguazú in Argentina or in Foz do Iguacu on the Brazilian side.

. . . #Paraguay #great_captures_argentina #ArgentinaIG #ig_argentina #turismoargentina #arg_salvaje #Argentina #travelarg #viviargentina #travelbuenosaires #visitargentina #buenosaires #postaleslp #tripinargentina #ruterosargentinos #southamerica #discoversouthamerica #ig_latinoamerica_ #ig_all_americas #iguazu #iguazufalls #nature #instagram #instagood #picoftheday #instagrames #visualsofearth #createexplore

Each country has its own national park that serves as a protected natural area for the falls, and both have been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site.

As mentioned earlier, Iguazú Falls is, in total, the largest waterfall system in the world. It is a large and imposing complex that measures 1.7 miles in width, over two times the width of Niagara Falls!

The falls’ highest drop also measures 269 feet. The falls, in total, have the sixth-greatest average annual water flow of any waterfall in the world.

If you are lucky enough to visit the falls, you will never forget the thundering roar of the water and the visceral sight of nature’s power. Be sure to take advantage if you have the opportunity to go!
