Myanmar is probably one of the most underrated countries in Southeast Asia, but the list of reasons to visit is pretty long. Its natural beauty and cultural richness make it worth the visit, especially if you check out one of the country’s most picture-perfect spots—Hsinbyume Pagoda.

Its Origin Story

The mesmerizing white pagoda was built in honor of Princess Hsinbyume all the way back in 1812. She was the first wife of King Bagyidaw, whose family spent over a century ruling Burma. Its unique design was supposed to be evocative of the sacred Mount Meru, and its layered design represents seven mountain ranges mentioned in Buddhist mythology.

Where It Is

Hsinbyume Pagoda can be found north of Mandalay, in a tiny town called Mingun. A ride from Mandalay is about an hour long, but you can also take a ferry from the Gaw Wein Jetty if you’re up for an adventure that won’t set you back by a lot of money.

Great Value

Speaking of money, the ticket for this beautiful Buddhist white pagoda only costs 5,000 MMK ($3.30), and it covers the entire Mingun archaeological zone, including Mingun Pahtodawgyi. Hsinbyume Pagoda is open daily, but make sure you’re there during daylight hours to get amazing photos that you’ll cherish for a lifetime.
