There is also a cable car if you want a slightly shorter walk. Once at the summit of Le Brevent, there are amazing views across the valley of the summit of Mont Blanc and the surrounding mountains.
The walk from Chamonix to Mer De Glace is one of the quieter hikes from Chamonix, so you can find a bit of tranquility on this one. It is a surprise that it’s not more popular however, as it takes in some stunning woodland, great mountain views and culminates in an aerial view of the glacier known as Mer de Glace, which means ‘sea of ice’.
For this walk, you will need to take a cable car to Aiguille Du Midi from Chamonix. This takes you to an elevation of 12,605 feet, the closest you can get to Mont Blanc’s summit without hiking. After taking in the spectacular vistas at the top, you can take the cable car down and choose to hike down from Plan de l’Aiguille to Chamonix, which takes around three hours.
