Entry to the gardens is free from November to March, and guided tours are available for those interested in seeing more of the estate.

]]>Hatley Castle may look pretty familiar from the outside, as it was used as the facade for The X-Men or what is known as Professor Xavier’s School For Gifted Youngsters. While the castle itself is beautiful, one could argue that its surrounding gardens are even more enchanting.
The gardens surrounding the castle are all themed. There is a classic Italian garden, which consists of perfectly symmetrical ornamental rose planters, and precisely cut grass. The Japanese garden features a number of maples, and some small Bonsai trees. The rose garden is a classic English one, and there are a wide variety of roses from around the world.
At present, you can go on a free self-guided tour of the gardens. This is available from 12:00 to 4:00 PM daily. This is a great way to spend a couple of hours, and get to learn about the history of the castle and its surroundings.
