Basic economy is one of the new buzzwords in flying. More and more traditional, non-low cost airlines are now offering up a type of ticket with this name which offers up a cheaper option to flying.

Basic economy typically does not include any baggage (including hand baggage), a choice of seats, or any type of cancellation or change flexibility on your ticket.

So, how do you know if this option is right for you?

Basic economy is great if you find a significant price difference between a regular seat and a basic economy seat. Even if you have to take hand luggage or if you want to choose a seat, you can usually do so at a price that won’t make it any more expensive.

Also, if the days of your trip are set in stone and there’s no chance that you might have to make a change or cancel, basic economy is great because you won’t have to worry about losing your money.

Short trips are another great reason to choose basic economy, as you probably won’t need to check baggage and run up the fees on your flight in this way.

So, there are definitely situations where flying basic economy is the right choice if you want to get a deal. Go ahead and try it, and see what you think!

The emergence of budget airlines in the 21st century has been one of the biggest game-changers in travel throughout the world. Before, regular air travel was largely expensive and limited to only a subset of the population, but now, it’s easier than ever to explore without breaking the bank.

With that being said, budget airlines do have strategies for making money that aren’t included in the basic fare for a ticket. Follow these tips to ensure that you don’t accidentally end up spending too much money.

Read the Fine Print

Budget airlines will do their best to “sneak in” charges that you might not see unless you take the time to read the fine print when buying your ticket. Be sure to do so in order to understand things such as luggage allowances and ticket policies.

Don’t Worry About Your Seat

Unfortunately in order to sit with those that you may be traveling with on a budget airline or to sit in an aisle or a window seat, you will have to pay extra money. My recommendation is to just accept the seat that is automatically assigned to you in order not to drive up your bill.

Take Your Own Food and Drink

Traditional airlines usually offer up at least a drink and a snack to travelers on their flights, but that isn’t the case for budget airlines. Instead of paying exorbitant amounts to buy food or a drink onboard, why not just bring your own? Bring them from home or buy them at the airport before boarding.
