]]>So, if you love the atmosphere of the big city but with the serenity and beauty of the ocean, Durban has to be your next destination.
Since Durban is on the coast, there are obviously some amazing beaches to check out. North Beach is one of the most popular and largest in the city, and is also a great place for surfing if you want to catch a wave!
Another awesome beach to check out is called Umhlanga Beach, which has one of the most beautiful piers in the world. It’s also located in an area of Durban that is super trendy with cool places to shop and eat, so you can really do it all in Umhlanga.
If you want to go a little more off the beaten path and explore some incredible natural landscapes, you have to go to Mzinyathi Falls. Though it’s actually only about 20 minutes from Umhlanga, it is a little difficult to get to physically and directionally. However, you can hire a guide to take you there and to the Rasta Caves. But once you see the views of the valley and the giant waterfall, you’ll know it’s all worth it.
Something that is really unique and incredible to do in Durban is to see the beach from a new height, literally speaking. There are tons of companies in Durban that offer horseback riding on the beach, which is such an amazing experience, especially if you’re an animal lover. Though in some places it can be quite expensive, you’ll usually pay about $20 per person, which makes it even more worthwhile.
You can’t go to Durban without having bunny chow, it’s just a fact. This is the most popular street food in the city, and it is a hearty one! A large piece of white bread is carved out to make room for a spicy curry of any number of meats and usually served with a beer. It’s messy, so delicious, and you’ll definitely be full afterward.
Durban has an awesome restaurant scene, and if you want to be taken on a trip while you eat, you have to go to the Roma Revolving Restaurant. This Italian restaurant serves you not only 300 feet up in the air, but the whole restaurant turns slowly while you eat, giving you the most incredible views of the city.
If you want a taste of fine dining with French and Mauritian influences, you have to visit Ile Maurice. This restaurant uses the best techniques and local seafood to bring you the most scrumptious meals, all while looking out on the sea. What could be better?
