Given its impactful history, precious archeological sites, unique artifacts, and golden beaches, Greece proves to be a wholesome vacation destination. Cruises are often seen as great holidays for older people and don’t often appeal to a younger crowd. But there are some great aspects to this type of holiday, so here’s why you should give it a go.

Traveling on a Boat is Fun

If you’ve never traveled via boat, this is a great way to experience this. You won’t tire of looking out at the beautiful sea, and you’ll see some incredible sunrises and sunsets. There’s something very satisfying about falling asleep to the gentle rocking and distant sounds of the engine.

You’ll Get a Taste of Loads of Different Places

While you may not like the idea of only visiting places for a day, this is a great way to see many different locations. You can get a taste of the area, note the places you especially love, and plan a longer trip there.

You Can Dress Up

While it may seem a little strange at first to put on some fancy clothes to go to dinner, this is actually really fun. There are not many chances these days to get all dressed up, so go all out and enjoy the experience.

Cruise ships have always been a special escape but the bar has just been raised. In January 2024, The Royal Caribbean is launching a new cruise ship that will be the largest to set sail — the Icon of the Seas. This ship cost almost $2 billion to build and is setting a new standard in the industry.

Here’s what you can expect.

The ship has the capacity to host nearly 10,000 passengers. The design is completely new and modern – unlike any other ship sailing the sea today.

The Icon of the Seas is fueled by liquid natural gas, making it one of the most environmentally friendly ships. It also has the infrastructure to make its own fresh water on board and has advanced air lubrication systems for lower decks.

Entertainment-wise, the Icon of the Seas surpasses any resort. Among the 20 decks of this ship, there are seven swimming pools, a suspended infinity pool, and six giant waterslides (one of them the tallest ever built on board a ship). And there’s so much more to explore!

The construction of the ship began in 2016 and after a successful test run, the ship is ready to set sail.

Cultural Exploration

Each Scandinavian country has a unique cultural identity and history. With a cruise, you can visit a variety of cities and towns to experience the local culture, cuisine, and traditions.

Ease of Travel

Cruises provide a convenient way to explore Scandinavia’s highlights without constantly packing and unpacking. The cruise itinerary often includes major cities like Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm, and Helsinki. You’ll get to visit multiple destinations without the hassle of changing hotels.

Comfort

Finally, modern cruise ships offer a wide range of amenities, from fine dining restaurants and spa services to entertainment and onboard activities. After a day of exploration, you can return to the comfort of your ship for more fun on board.

Are you longing to go on a relaxing cruise but forgot to renew your passport in time? No problem. Here are some ideal cruise destinations you can visit without needing to bring a passport for entry.

Bahamas

Departing from Florida’s ports of Miami, Port Everglades, and Port Canaveral, there are a few closed-loop cruises that you can take to the tropical Bahamas. Carnival Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, and Disney Cruise Line are some of the companies that offer this opportunity.

Canada

While it may be a foreign nation, Canada is often included on cruise itineraries that originate in nearby places including Boston, New York City, and New Jersey. This presents a unique opportunity to take in all the beauty that the Great White North has to offer.

Alaska

While it may not be part of the mainland USA, Alaska is nevertheless a US state, meaning that you won’t need to present your passport to enter. Alaska is home to breathtaking wildlife, sights, and unique food that you’re unlikely to eat anywhere else.

So, you’ve booked your first cruise. How exciting! Now that you’re ready to sail the ocean and visit some exciting destinations, there are some things you should know before heading out on your vacation that will make your first cruise even better. Here are five things you should know before your first cruise.

Prebook Activities Before Leaving

If you’re looking forward to dining at a particular restaurant, enjoying a relaxing spa, or taking a shore excursion, make sure you book these things in advance. Reservations onboard book quickly, especially during peak season. Also, this will allow you to budget better and avoid making rash purchases.

Don’t Assume the Cruise is All-Inclusive

Most cruises cover the cabin, meals, onboard activities, and entertainment, but you should budget for drinks, internet, shore excursions, gratuities, and taxes and port charges.

Arrive at Your Departure City Early

Avoid stressing about delayed flights and heavy traffic by planning to arrive at your departure city a day or more before the cruise. If you’re late, the ship won’t wait for you.

Pack a Carry-On Bag

You’ll most likely board the ship before your luggage gets to your cabin, so pack any necessities like medicine, important documents, and phone chargers in a carry-on bag. Pack some sunscreen and a bathing suit so you can jump straight into the pool.

Watch the Clock

Be aware that some ports are in different time zones than the ship’s clock, so make sure you’re following the correct one. Passengers are usually required to be back on board 30 minutes before the ship departs and if you’re late, the ship won’t wait.

Antarctica is the one continent that commercial flights don’t fly to and it doesn’t exactly have a thriving continental tourism sector. But that doesn’t mean you can’t visit this vast polar landscape. There are a couple of different routes you can take to get there. The obvious one is applying to be a research scientist or support staff. If you have thousands of dollars, there is also a luxury camp called Whichaway which you can stay at. For most of us though, the best way to visit Antarctica is through a cruise.

Each year, National Geographic launches a number of expedition cruises to Antarctica. These cruises consist of various scientists and a few members of the public. You get to live aboard one of the ships for about 10 days, while you explore Drake Passage, Antarctica itself, and assist with some of the less technical aspects of research. This is an excellent way to see the continent, contribute to important research, and tick a continent off of your list. The cruises start at $16,450 and you will need to share your cabin with one other cruise goer. Space is at a premium on these research vessels, but you will feel like one of the first explorers.

Going on a cruise will not be the same in years to come. Once the cruise lines start to operate again after the pandemic, they will look a lot different. Here’s what’s about to change.

Old Technology

Cruises are about to finally become more modern. It took a pandemic, but the cruises will get some new technology devices, like sterilization robots that are already used in some parts of the travel industry.

Getting Friendly with the Crew

The crew won’t get to socialize with the guests anymore, not until the virus is completely gone. Physical contact and close interactions are the first to go once the cruises are back, so don’t expect to hang out with the crew like before.

Smoking

Smokers won’t be pleased to hear that more and more cruise lines are reducing the areas where smoking is allowed. Some ships already don’t allow smoking at all, so if you don’t want to give up on your habit while on the cruise vacation, make sure your cruise of choice allows it.
